Great Gatsby was only made in 3D to get the money back on a $120m movie, Bugsy Malone director tells Kirsty Wark

By Mark Sweney

Sir Alan Parker has dismissed 3D films as a marketing gimmick and said he is unlikely to direct any more movies – but would consider working in TV, where "the very best work is being done".

Parker said that big budget films were made in 3D because the Hollywood studios thought that was necessary to make it appealing to a mainstream audience.

Yeah, who needs those "mainstream audiences" anyway? Films can be more "artsy fartsy" without them! We have too far many "mainstream films" (especially in 3D) already. If those "mainstreamers" want 3D, let them make their own, eh?

Wait, aren't mainstream media consumers the ones who actually pay for all that stuff?

They could of took that 120 million for the Movie film and invested in food economics trading or started a new Tech company that would of made them most likely 2 billion dollars by now, if started two years ago.

The producers in Hollywood are doing it for the passion not for the big money and then it employs like over a thousand people for one movie over 4 years I would say. 40hr a week x 11 months x 3 years = 5280 hours for each person x 1000 persons = 5280000 hours / 120,000000 = $22.72 dollars/hour.

I would say just keep coming out with well made movie plots and good story telling and that this is what the mainstream want most. The 3d makes it so you are willing to watch the movie again so that its not as boring.
