Aaaah those people who pretend to dislike porn just to get some attention and feel they're better than the rest of us, who on earth do you think gives a single sh*t about what you think?
Your opinion isn't one, as all your "beliefs" are based in falseness to begin with
Seriously, apart from hardcore catholics that can be proud to count numerous pedophile priests through their ranks, who in hell can pretend to both dislike porn and be a normal human being?
If you're a man, you like porn. Everyone pretending otherwise is either a weirdo or full of sh*t. End of story.

Most importantly, you are always having sex with yourself, even if there is vestigially another 'person' involved.

porn just makes the circle jerk completely obvious.

What questions? Although I see strings of question marks scattered through some of your posts, they are worded as statements, not even implying a question. Not sure what questions you are asking publicly of Palmer here.

I'm not a spokesperson for Oculus (i have actually no idea what happens inside that company) but i'll try to provide some answers.

A second devkit (if there will be a second one) will be done mostly to reduce the cost (as they successfully did with dk1). A consumerverson will be made with a more balanced ratio quality/cost so expect the consumerversion to be pricier.

1-I'd say no. It's an open platform. To fulfill this request it will cost too much resources as well as money for the company. One option is if they merge with another company but that's unlikely. Actually the answer of this question is from Palmer himself when he responds to Mr quietboy.
2-Do anyone know? Even Palmer himself?
3-Maybe a taped logo. Is it really that important?

Still not worded as questions even after I pointed that out to you earlier. Now that they have been identified as questions, I am curious how they apply to this thread topic, but I will attempt to answer them realistically anyway.

The answers to all of those questions are subject to change:

1) The Rift already contains an embedded processor implemented as an SoC. However, it must remain locked down for now to not run user code, or there may be certification or customs problems in some countries (potential encryption device, etc.). You may connect your Rift to any SoC device that has HDMI outputs and USB inputs, running Android or any other OS. Probability of an Oculus custom Soc: near zero percent for some time to come.

2) No announced plans of a Dev Kit 2 upgradeable to a consumer Rift. Current pricing and availability of parts for a Dev Kit 2 make it unlikely to be economically viable at the current price-point ($300) before the consumer Rift becomes available. However, if such component pricing suddenly made the current 1080p prototypes economically affordable, such plans might be made at that time. Even if such potential plans existed, they would not be announced until ready, and probably not in a porn thread such as this.

3) There were early rumors of a backlighted logo using plastic light-guides, but that was discarded for a simple blue LED in the Oculus logo. Perhaps for manufacturing simplicity and reliability, and easy assembly.

If any Oculus staff members, or even Palmer Luckey himself, wish address your questions, they may, but that is not the purpose of this thread.

I damn right friend!
I did the same with Dell last year. I've asked them to ban the porn from their monitors, but sadly I've failed.
I'm not giving up though, next step is to force RayBan to filter porn from passing through their glasses. I already smell a victory!

Do not be too optimistic since i've got some bad news. Research is successfully done (and improving) with a product that rather does the opposite.

Oh my god are you kidding me? let me just say personally the rift is AWESOME for adult content. First of all when i saw the virtual cinema app before i got the rift i was like oh my gosh this would be awesome for porn :-) .

Google only has banned porn apps specifically for their store or whatever people use to download content for it. However, they will not be able to stop 3rd party sites from doing something like that, there is no way to stop that, just like there is no way for apple to stop you from looking at porn on the ipad (they can block adult "apps" on their store) but you can always simply covert them from itunes as a movie file. they cant stop that.

Therefor any app that can play video (or show pictures) can be used for porn. You cant stop that. Oculus COULD ban such topics or posts on their threads but thankfully they have not done so.

You know why? because its good research, if they are open to VR they have to take in account for all possible aspects and some may not be so great.....but still.

and let me also say that having a sexy charecter right in front of you in the Rift? thats just awesome too. you know how some people spend all that money on those "sex dolls" while you cant actualy "touch or feel them" with the Rift.. the fact that you can have a sexy charecter feel like they are RIGHT there in front of your face is still pretty awesome. lets face it. thats why men go to strip clubs some of those clubs have a no touchy policy too (some) so you can have your own little "club" in the rift.

and yeah yeah yeah some of these religious nuts might find it offensive. well you know what i say? if you want porn to stop get these women to stop ripping their clothes off for money. its amazing how many people (women) fuss about how degrading it is and treat men who look at it as terrible but not even seeing that hey these women didnt have a gun to their heads to do the porn in the first place (yeah yeah yeah you hear all this bs horror stories about women who were abused and thats why they got into porn) bs. i think todays women are just full of it. Ok so what you are saying is its ok for an attracive womenb to rip their clothes off for some hot guy in private but its not ok if she wants to do it on video for anyone to see? give me a break. i love porn because of the fact that most "hot" women want nothing to do with me because i have a disablity, been that way all my life.

lets face it .,.in todays world. if you want a hot girl. you pretty much have to be a hot guy., period. yeah you might get lucky with a few but..for the most part thats the way it is now. its sad but its true.

so thats why i like porn you get to look at all these sexy women that you would never have a chance with in real life..and with the rift even more so once the adult industry really gets a hold of it.

I think it is awesome....i tell you i really havent lets say "had as much fun" with videos or what on a computer as i did with using it with the Rift......i mean come on how many of you guys have fantasied about watching your favorite porn on the big screen but dont want to look like a douchbag by going to an adult theatre in real life.......this way you have your own private one! haha.

porn is here to stay. sorry folks. you can get upset about it, you can cry about it, you can try to lobby and speak out against it. but there is no stopping it, even more so now that our generation is so obsessed with sex,

and actually while yeah in some cases it can be bad., there is also great many cases that porn has actually spiced up a couples relatonship. those women who are actually open minded enough and understandingj enough to enjoy watching porn with their husbands or bfs or whatever..i am told it can be quite rewarding for both.

it usualy is mostly the women who find it offensive. "Ooh it degrades women" "ooh": as it was said on a show once, you know who really degrades women these days? Not men. women! do.

they do it by the way they act. the way they dress.. its funny that a women can dress in tight clothes that show off their boobs and ass for anyone to see, but then they can say porn is bad.

women have degraded themselves so much this day and age its not funny. Everyone wants to blame us men and use us as a scapegoat, my own mother didnt talk to me for like 2 years because she caught me with porn.......grow up. and the women who have real issues with it with their husbands most likely are just not secure enough in themselves. it doesnt mean we want these women more then you...by the way......well maybe sometimes. but most of us know better :-p.

anyways ok i went on long about that..but I DO NOT THINK OCULUS SHOULD BAN TOPICS OR POSTS ABOUT PORN OR ADULT VR APPLICATIONS

and i think this post is stupid. and at least learn how to type if your going to make such a post. porn is here to stay (lesbian porn is the best.)

I feel obligated to point out that despite the obvious wrongness of the OP, there is a lot of wrongness in the replies as well.

Mainly, the naiive blaming of "women" or "feminism". Sex and porn in feminism is obviously a huge issue, but many peoples posts in this thread betray that their knowledge of these things comes second hand via the media and the general culture's idea of those things, sadly being about 50 years out of date. The Feminist Sex Wars happened (seriously, that's what it's called) and quite a lot of modern feminism is totally okay with porn while still acknowledging the industry has its problems. Of course, VR porn avoids many of these simply by avoiding involving actual performers except for some cases of mocap+voicework.

The other issue being the general statements "lol all guys like porn". Don't generalise your fellow man like that. It's not weird to dislike porn, everyone's allowed their own tastes. Even if some men really have been influenced into that stance by, say, a religious upbringing, give them the benefit of the doubt, don't call them weird or liars. It's nobody's business but their own. Obviously they have no business telling the rest of us what to like either.

Yes, if Oculus wants to absolutely ensure that the Rift is not successful, they should figure out a way to ban pornography from being displayed on it.

Seriously, if they did that, they would be digging a grave for the Rift before it even has a chance to live.

What a terrible terrible idea. Don't push your moral values on us. If you choose not to engage in adult entertainment while using your Rift, that is your choice. Your choice will not influence or dictate my choice or anyone else's choice.

Related to the subject, the license of a 3D modeling program called 3D-Coat actually forbids its users from modeling anything oscene or indecent with the software.

Quick question. Why would it be more acceptable for content makers to have naked people on TV versus naked people on an Oculus Rift? How or why should the rules be differentiated between the two? I'm not endorsing one position over another; I'm just curious if there is some kind of standard to go by.

OK. In light of some of the clearly out-of-hand commentary and incomprehensible attempts at humor from this "individual", I'm going to come out with it...

...Geekmaster was one of my first A.I. projects I started while working at JPL with the Venus Lander Systems Division. We were attempting to incorporate an intelligence that could simultaneously unravel substantial questions about the atmospheric entry process while entertaining a crew that had been travelling for upwards of a month.

The project was ended 2-years ago, however we were doing several experiments in VR using Geekmaster's algorithms. We decided to allow it to interact with many in our community, and later, with the MTBS3D community as well. This has clearly caused some issues. I have to personally apologize for the release of this software. I will be contacting several of my colleagues over the next couple of days to see if we might be able to bring it down. It's not a simple task, as the central code is embedded in several mirrored locations.

Rest assured that we will do what we can. It is quite possible that a female Geekmaster-like algorithm could be used in a fem-bot program for the rift at some time in the future. I'm sure it will blow your mind what Geekmaster can do, if you are not convinced, already!

Dude! That was highly classified! Did you forget the NDA you signed? How about all the trouble you went through to get that security clearance? How can you risk all that? Oh well, what's done is done. Let's just hope the NSA does not get the CIA involved in your indiscretion here...

i think palmer and the team are good men. i hope they consider this.
All of these reports are talking about the effects of porn on children. Obviously there should be parental controls in place for this stuff. However, based on my personal experience, there were no adverse effects due to early access to porn. I first stumbled across porn on the internet when I was ~10 and my sex life is pretty standard (probably too standard  ).
pornography negatively affects adults too. we can find tons about this on internet

pornography causes unequivocal harm to society by increasing rates of sexual assault
Effects of Prolonged Consumption of Pornography reported a review of controlled studies which found that extensive viewing of the type of pornographic material commonly sold at adult bookstores was positively correlated with leniency in the sentencing of a person convicted of rape in a mock trial setting (figure 5), decreased satisfaction of participants with their sex lives and partners (figure 10), and an increased self-reported willingness to commit rape or other forced sexual acts
http://profiles.nlm.nih.gov/NN/B/C/K/V/
While we're at it, let's outlaw alcohol. Alcohol causes car accidents, bar fights, and all kinds of violence. Also water guns. There are studies that claim children will be more inclined to use real guns if they play with toy ones. Also videogames. Studies hate videogames. Let's ban those, too.

I'm all for responsible regulation (as vague as that might be), but things get ugly when you start banning instead of regulating. Banning can prevent the bad, but it also prevents the good. All of us non-rapist pornography enthusiasts are intimately familiar with that good. It doesn't make sense to compromise all of us because there might be a couple guys out there who could snap into crazy-rape mode after switching from their normal porn to wondrous VR porn.

How do we prevent those freaks from committing crimes? I don't know. But honestly, the Rift probably won't make or break them. Pornography in general probably won't, either. Studies love to throw out stats, but no psychological case study of a criminal will point to one sole factor that made them what they are. Correlation never completely equals causation. The whole story will never be, "Guy rapes girl because he watched too much porn!" Maybe tack on, "...and he had schizophrenia." or something. Ultimately, banning pornography to prevent rape is no more reasonable a solution than banning alcohol to prevent bar fights, or videogames to prevent violence.

I have no idea how late I am to this conversation, but I like putting in my 2 cents.

The Rift is a coin. Palmer and oculus have no control on how it will be spent.

Basically, "don't spend it all on dope". ^^^^

It further shows itself for what it is. What living human could actually find an angelfire website? And the odds of finding an angelfire website that is relevant to the conversation? Astronomical.

It seems that the so-called "google glass pornography ban" was not effective.

James Deen -- well, who else? -- is at the forefront of technology in a new movie that showcases Google Glass in a prostrate position. ... I am grateful to the Verge for discovering that the famous porn star James Deen has already shot a movie with Google Glass. ... For the purposes of pure science, I watched the trailer -- which is allegedly safe enough for YouTube, but not safe enough for your future career.
And more:

... Following the inevitable unfolding of Rule 34, which states that “if something exists, there is porn of it,” a MiKandi engineer, who wishes to be referred to only as Dr. Cocktor, obtained a pair of Glass after attending the Google i/O event in May. After two intensive weeks of development, MiKandi released the first Glass porn app: Tits and Glass.
[NSFW?] The trailer (all the explicit "adult stuff" was removed from this trailer video, so is it still NSFW?):

and then come back and tell me that porn and the Rift is not a good idea :woot

good times boys.

btw it reminds me of a line from Strange Days "move your eyes slowly....like your making love with your eyes.

i definitely think there is a need for very slow head movement

also verbal cues before positions change...get you ready

also needs closer proximity to the girls in the film. its personal space that makes things more exciting.
