Paramount Wants Michael Bay to Film Transformers 3 in 3D

Paramount Wants Michael Bay to Film Transformers 3 in 3D
by Peter Sciretta

Paramount might force Michael Bay into filming Transformers 3 in 3D following the success of James Cameron’s Avatar. Bay has been vocally against the growing popularity of 3D, at last year’s theatrical exhibitors ShoWest convention making the very popular statement that “I think it might be a gimmick.”

He added that he didn’t know for sure, and that he was “looking forward to [James] Cameron’s picture.” But even if he was impressed with how Cameron employed the technology, Bay explained that 3D is too fragile for his explosive-level of filmmaking.

mm this is a dilema- on the one hand transformers is possibly the most braindead movie I have ever seen, indeed I turned the first one off right near the end cause I was simply bored and didn't bother watching the second one. but maybe since it'll basically be 3d explosions and stuff I'll watch the 3rd one. mm I wonder when a 3d movie AND a storyline that doesn't feel like it was written by a 5th grader or stolen from somewhere will come out.

I don't think 3D would suit Michael Bay's style of filming. He always has fast cuts which wouldn't be good for 3D. Having said that, his constantly moving camera might work well with the depth element.
Having said all that, I'm not really bothered about Transformers 3.

Totally agree. Bay's MTV-Style of editing wouldn't work good with 3D. OTOH, if Paramount forces him to do it in 3D, maybe it'll slow him down a little bit.

The transformermovies are really "B" or even lower down the scale.
However i kinda like the transformer game. No matter what: If using a decent 3d-rig and a proper implemention of 3d in the movie i'd surely probably enjoy it. I don't know if Michael Bay would be as handy using 3d-technique when filming as Cameron. It should be interesting and in either case i'll probably watch it in the cinema anyway. Next time i think i can spare the cartrip of 350 kilometres because we will probably have a 3d-cinema in the next town by then. :shutter

Yeah, I am not so sure Bay's style is suited for 3D. But if they do it I will most certainly go to see it.

well I liked the "brain dead" transformers movies.... I mean what kind of movie were you expecting? they were based on a KIDS cartoon. Next think you'll be asking for meaningful sub plots and dramatic dialogue in a smurfs movie.

I think they would be great in 3D and I've actually downloaded a version of transformers 1 that somebody has converted into 3D. I don't have my entire 3D setup yet but I can't wait till I do.... Transformers will the the virgin showing on it.
