20th Century Fox and James Cameron Announce “Avatar Day”

On August 21, Global Audience Gets First Look at New Film from the Writer-Director of “Titanic”

LOS ANGELES --(Business Wire)-- Jul 23, 2009 On August 21, the world will get its first look at director James Cameron’s motion picture epic AVATAR, when Twentieth Century Fox and Cameron debut the film’s trailer everywhere – while select cinemas and IMAX® theaters will screen extended footage prepared by the renowned filmmaker for this global “Avatar Day” event.

The worldwide trailer launch will be presented in all formats, including IMAX® 3-D, IMAX® 2-D, digital 3-D, digital 2-D, and 35mm 2-D. The trailer will also be available online.

The extended look at AVATAR will unspool only on August 21 – and only in 3-D – in select theaters and IMAX®. Details on locations and reserving tickets for this extraordinary and unprecedented experience will be announced soon.

In addition on the 21st, Ubisoft® will unveil the trailer for their videogame James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, and Mattel will reveal the action figures for the film’s Avatar and alien Na’vi characters.

AVATAR takes us to a spectacular new world beyond our imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption, discovery and unexpected love, as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. The film was first conceived by Cameron 14 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Now, after four years of actual production work, AVATAR delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film, disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

AVATAR opens in theaters everywhere December 18, 2009.

Pretty cool if an s-3d trailer of avatar would available for download. Avatar seem to be pretty hyped but it seems that it's a "must see" for every stereoscopic fan. :shutter

Wait, so they are going to make me pay full ticket price just to see the trailer in 3D? I mean, I will pay it but this is getting ridiculous now. If this movie isn't the hands-down best film ever I think the entire world will just spontaneously combust. We could very well all be waiting for Waterworld 2 (although, jokes aside, I did actually like that movie).

EDIT: Please disregard my first comment. I just found out that this is a *free* event. Very different story.

I liked waterworld too, it was too prophetic for the small minds on this planet. My friends in florida say sea levels rising could sink the state in the next 50-100 years! ;)

The download trailer, where the info on what resolution it supports? HD hopefully.
The futures so bright, I gotta wear shades!

Rule no.1- Ignore all hype and assume every movie you are going to watch is as piece of crap. This is the only way to avoid disapointment.

Ok, so I got 2 tickets to go to see this sneak preview on Friday. I couldn't believe it. I went to the website like a half hour after tickets were available at 12PM (3PM my time) and the website was down. I mean, the page would half load but it would just be a black screen. By around 4:30 I could get to the page, but when I clicked on the ticket link there was an error. I guess a whole lot of people were trying to get seats. Luckily by like 6:30 I managed to get the tickets (right before I left work too). I figured it might get wild, but it seems like this is bigger then I even expected. Either that, or the people that made the Avatar website just suck. I really hope this movie is worth it...

Oh, and here is a direct link to the ticket page for all the cities:
