MONTREAL, QC, June 2, 2009 – SENSIO Technologies Inc. (“SENSIO”) (TSX Venture Exchange Inc.: SIO), the inventor of the SENSIO® 3D technology, announced today that James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game, inspired by the visionary director’s next feature film release James Cameron’s Avatar, will be available in SENSIO® 3D format for output from both X-Box 360 and PlayStation 3 game consoles. The stereoscopic version of the game will be presented by Ubisoft during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3 Expo) in Los Angeles .
“We required a field-proven format that was compatible with existing game consoles and upcoming 3DTV standards enabling nothing but the highest quality image. We were most impressed with SENSIO® 3D’s performance, reliability and ease of integration. We are very pleased to collaborate with SENSIO to display our game in true stereoscopic 3D,” commented Patrick Naud from Ubisoft.
“We are excited to collaborate with Ubisoft, a recognized world leader for developing quality video games, on this project,” noted Nicholas Routhier , President and CEO of SENSIO. “The video game market is a great potential source of 3D content for consumers.”
To benefit from this stereoscopic experience, as seen at E3, players of the James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game can connect their existing game consoles directly to 3D-enabled TV’s with built-in SENSIO® 3D decoding technology. This game is a great addition to the growing library of DVD titles and live 3D events broadcast in digital cinemas that are all currently available in the SENSIO® 3D format. These live 3D events will soon be made available to consumers through Pay-Per-View or Video-On-Demand, increasing the quantity and variety of available content in the market.

Re: Ubisoft Supports Sensio 3D Format For S-3D Video Games
ive been trying to figure out what sensio 3d is and how it works.
found this on engadget:

it seems pretty sweet, one stream can be interpreted and output to different types of 3d hardware.
im hoping its a standalone box, that way it would work with everything.
but if it ends up being integrated in tv's at least it will get it into more households.
a separate box would be a tough sell to someone who never experienced 3d i guess.
what do you guys think?

Re: Ubisoft Supports Sensio 3D Format For S-3D Video Games
Sensio created it's own 3D format which is patented and which we don't have a single clue about how it looks like, how to encode to and how to read. It may be based on some current technology but adds a closed proprietary layer that justifies the patents, so there is a very strong chance that sensio3D content will not be compatible with our current hardware and software.
In order to encode 3D content to sensio3D format you need a sensio certified app
In order to decode sensio3D content on your display, you need a sensio certified player or a special sensio certified decoding box or a sensio chip inside your TV that will convert on the fly the sensio3D image into the uncompressed native format of your screen.

ive talked to sensio on multiple occasions as a content creator. They could offer no information on how to encode to their format in post and seemed clueless about how production works, so its quite disappointing to hear that these companies are allowing to them to propagate their inferior technology. Once blu-ray creates its 3d standard it will effectively make sensio obsolete.

I'm not down with this proprietary stuff. Standards need to be open and accessible to everyone. But if Sensio does have the best format I hope they win so we can get moving with the 3D movies already.

best? seeing as their codec compressed with 80% efficiency and requires an interlaced passthrough, your effectively getting 40% of the original quality. For dvd, its better than nothing, but there are better techs out there.
