This years Hollywood Post Alliance (HPA) Technology Preview will be at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage, California. This venue focuses on cinema, television and related technologies. As a premier air event for the broadcast postproduction industry this arena provides an unadulterated environment free from sales and marketing clutter to allow the top executives and researchers from Hollywood studios, broadcast networks, manufacturers, artist and even the military to meet up from all over the world.
Even in this economic downturn the number of submissions for the main sessions is up by six times more than the event organisers can accommodate, showing how important this venue is to the major industry players like Panasonic, who demoed and introduced to the world it’s a variable frame rate digital camcorder technology from this very venue as well as Sony who used it to introduce low compression high-quality HDTV recording technology to the industry.
One of the presentations will cover the evolution of human perception which covers the, “seemingly impossible laboratory technologies as the ability to change focus after a scene is shot.” An area which Adobe has been playing in with their specific multi-lens stills cameras technology. Another presentation from the BBC will focus on the extraordinary sharpness of high frame rate viewing ,the European broadcasting Union ‘on the issue of concatenated-compression, and from a Bollywood lab on maintaining a cinematographer's desired look via online techniques.’
With lots more scheduled presentations details here it looks like they’ll be something for everyone. Any forum members attending this year?
