The new version of these niche eyewear offerings hopes to make a better impression this time round are supposed to be previous "iPod only" offerings. "We see people wanting to use the goggles at home, for the kids in the back of the car or on a plane", Andreas Klavehn, senior sales and marketing manager for multimedia devices at Carl Zeiss.

This is a polar opposite to the viewpoint that their competitor Vuzix is taking with the announcement of their Wrap 920AV whose design and approach is heading more towards a heads up display approach" with the "more sunglasses styled product at CES in Las Vegas."

Who's your money on, I suppose it depends on a direct comparison. The Carl Zeiss Cinemizer as expected in March in the USA, UK and Germany at a UK friendly £300, ouch. Let's hope the Vuzix Wrap 920AV surfaces at a similar time so we can get this "Battle Royale" started already!

Can't find the actual spec about the LCD resolution. The iPod reference makes me think it is less than VGA and thus too embarrassing to mention.

I suspect you're right, so it won't be a like-for-like comparison anyway, shame.

I would not use an HMD on a plane. There's too much vibration.

The Carl Zeiss Cinemizer has diopter adjustment which is a great feature for users who wear glasses. I agree about the resolution. Probably 640x480 or less.
