Optically Compensated Bend (OCB)
The Toshiba America press release announced that it will be showing the technology that will enable the mass adoption of 3-D viewing in handheld devices. The small to medium handheld devices will be able to output autostereoscopic (viewing without the need for special glasses) images via the integration of an advanced 3-D film that use "Optically Compensated Bend (OCB) mode to deliver clear, true autostereoscopic viewing at a glance."
This particular development from Toshiba has overcome the obstacles of incorporating this type of tech into today's thin, high resolution displays and enables simultaneous 2-D and 3-D viewing an all or parts of the display no picture degradation. Further press release details of what will be shown at the CES demonstration can be found here. Further Optically Compensated Bend (OCB) technology details can be found here.
