Hey guys, I have been a 3D gamer for a long time and used Tridef after a long discussion here. Now I am back, and I am waiting on my Oculus DK2 to arrive.

My question; 1)Does Nvidia offer a solution that plays side by side? I only want to use my DK2 as a large 3d screen and want another solution besides Tridef that can play side by side. I am scared of VorpX as it is a third party driver and may be mistaken for a hack by punkbuster.

Please, any advice...thanks.

For Rift games, you typically want to be playing native support games and apps. There are some 3rd party driver solutions, but they do not provide the best experience. In some cases you can get them to work OK with certain games, but you'll have to tweak the settings a lot usually to get something playable.

In any case, Nvidia doesn't support the Rift. They only support certain monitors they approve. TriDef had some beta support of the DK1, but it never worked very well and I don't think they are updating it. VorpX actually works OK some of the time, but latency is an issue. Vireio has updated support for DK2, but in general it's hard to get that software running (even I was having problems getting it to work at all). With all these options, I WOULD NOT play online as you may get banned.

If you want advice: don't bother with drivers on DK2. Just play the games that have real VR support.

Thank for the info cyber.

With the DK2, I am not really after headtracking and all that...I just want to use it as a big 3d screen.

So Nvidia does not support side by side output on any level? Even for 3Dtv?

No, Nvidia does not support side-by-side.

And even the TriDef normal side-by-side is not the format for the Rift (though they do have a beta Rift mode that may or may not work for you).

Honestly, VorpX might be your best bet but I still would not venture online with it.

Thanks for your responses Cyber, you are very helpful.

So Nvidia is out then. I already have Tridef and I was under the impression that side by side output work on the ORift-DK2? I have read and watched Youtube videos, where the person just sets it to side by side and it works, albiet without headtracking.

Do you have any idea how to fix the aspect ratio inside the rift using Tridef? Is there anything else I can do besides beta rift drivers?

How about Vireio Perception? Please help.

Thanks.

Yes, the issue is the SBS is the wrong aspect ratio (squished) that was what I was saying. The beta Rift mode in TriDef fixes that.

You can also use Vireio Perception, which will do what you need but the game support is not nearly as much as VorpX or TriDef. However, it is free and open-source, so feel free to download and experiment.
