Managed to reset Win10 Pro PC to 1809. How do I stop it from Updating past 1809

Post by Muojo »

Pretty much what I just asked in the title. My computer has been crashing left and right so I reset it. Luckly enough, the Windows verison was 1809. Now I am on Windows 10 Pro 64bit. How can I stop this machine from moving up to 1809? Actually could it be the reason it kept crashing. Becaues Microsoft was trying to get me to move to a newer flavor?

Of course the reason why I don't want to move past 1809 is because I don't want any issues with 3D vision. I have been so preoccupied with school and internships so I haven't been on these forums much since June 2019. I don't know all the fixes you guys have done but the little I've read, it seems people are still having issues on 1903 and 1909 with 3D vision?

Also what are some good imaging software I can use to image my computer in its 1809 in case I need to go back again? Clonezilla is no longer a favorite of mine because it switches the names of the HDDs depending on what drives you have plugged in making it hard to restore successfully

3dvision is fully working with the latest wind10 update, just download the latest 3dfm and use it to update to the latest nvidia driver + 3dvision driver.

See https://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic ... 95#p170395, and search web for other steps like changing update group policy.

I keep hearing conflicting info. Some people say it works, others say things are blocked for UE4 games. SO which is it? I'd rather be on the latest and greatest but I don't wanna limit the games I can play in 3D

@whyme466, didn't you have issues with 3D for UE4 games?

"only exception are DX11 games protected with EAC." Have you been able to play any of these DX11 games protected by EAC?

I'm just going off what I've heard. Apparently whatever this EAC thing is has stopped people from being able to play games

It is Easy Anti Cheat, used by several games. For Dx11 games the nvidia drivers have to be patched to get them working, but EAC detects that as cheating, because the patched drivers aren't signed anymore.
For other programs/games the driver patching isn't necessary, so they'll work fine. So, if you have Dx11 games protected with EAC you may run into problems, otherwise you can safely update to the newest Windows and drivers.
For Dx11 games you can use the original drivers 425.31 (unless EAC insists on updating them). The new version of 3DFM will let you choose to disable the patch.
If you don't have Dx11 games with EAC, you can use BringBack3dV to update your drivers in a very easy way.

Oh, is EAC only for multiplayer games? Like I can still play singleplayer even with EAC? Even for games that require an online service like (Rockstar Social club login to get into GTA V singleplayer and UPlay?). If thats the case, then yeah I don't care at all. I don't like MP...AT ALL. I prefer enjoyinh single player in 3D at my own leisure

Btw were I to dual boot for whatever reason, I can still play my steam library from either OS correct?

Depends on the game. Here's a few examples based on my experience:
-For Honor had an offline tutorial and a limited SP mode with bots, and as long as you were playing SP then you were fine, but as soon as you tried connecting to a MP match you wouldn't be able to join any matches.
-Vermintide 2 crashes on startup unless you select their modded realm, which disabled EAC entirely
-Far Cry 5, a single player game entirely, was completely unplayable (however they've since removed EAC, and that is no longer an issue, but no fix currently exists)

Yes, and if you have your Steam library installed on a separate drive (any drive that isn't c:\) then you access the same game installations from both/multiple OS's by adding the same Steam library location.

Crap, so it does affect single player games. In 1809, could you play these games with no issues even with EAC? I'd think there wouldn't be any differnece since its the same OS. If so then I definitely need to dual boot

No, this has nothing to do with your Windows 10 version, it happens on every version/build of Windows.

EAC detects if you are using any outside tools or hacks to modify the game, in this case that would be 3DMigoto dll that hooks into the graphics API that we use to make our fixes. You usually can still play any EAC game in 3D, but 100% guarantee it will be a completely broken mess without a fix, and the problem is since EAC blocks 3DMigoto we can't fix those games.

So then it seems there is no need to keep/hold on to 1809 then. Whats the point if everything happens on any version of Windows 10?

I have no idea how you construed what I was just talking about (specifically EAC) as meaning there is fundamentally no difference between how 3D works on 1809 and above versions. I feel like I'm being roped into explaining different and unrelated things here, and I'm not particularly interested in explaining what you're now asking (nor am I an expert in the subject), so I'll leave that up to someone more patient and qualified to answer.

You just said that EAC will give you issues on any version of WIndows. So then I said, there shouldn't be any point in staying with 1809 if you get EAC issues on 1809 and any version

Yeah, that's right... but people haven't been staying on 1809 because of EAC, so that's a fairly irrelevant argument against whether to stay on 1809 or not.

Oh I completely misunderstood. my apologies. What is the issue why people are staying on 1809? UE4? Isn't that already been patched with some new method I keep hearing about

Again, I'm not an expert on this subject, but from my recollection going over 1809 initially invalidated the method that was being used to inject the 3DVision driver into the latest Nvidia drivers. Some very smart people here have since overcome that obstacle, so staying on 1809 is no longer a hard requirement and many have updated since.

Is Stereoscopic Player working on 1903 forward now? This was one of the main reasons I reverted to 1809 as I lost the ability to play ripped .mkv

Win10 1809 doesn't need the driver patch, so you can play EAC games. From 1903 and up, DX11 games need the patch.

Stereoscopic player works fine with the newest driver and newest windows.

I use 1909 Windows Pro and have a fair few games installed. They all work a treat. I have installed Windows Update Blocker as well as well as don't want to move past the upcoming Windows upgrade until its proven itself zero impact. Cheers, Chris

Well you haven't asked me as I've only just found this forum! I use this one as it's the last NVidea job that included 3D as part of the package. Newer drivers have had modifications applied to reinstate 3D, but as I tend play older games there's no benefit to me. Also I use a dedicated offline setup so not fussed about latest Win updates/fixes etc.
