Hey Guys,

I am having some issues with my 3D Mode switching in the ControlPanel.. I have it set to CRT Display but IF I close or restart the PC it will switch to Discover mode??

Not sure why this is happening now I never had that before but I did have the New Driver s Automatically install bout 3 weeks ago but I since did a Uninstall and reinstalled the old drivers I use.. I use the 296.10..

Nvidia started messing around with CRT support a while back, around 285 I think, they even removed it completely at one stage. Custom resolutions have been broken for years though (stuck at 16bit colour) so had to start using faked inf drivers to get 144Hz 3D on my old Trani-tron CRT.

well the support is still there for the 296.10 but it keeps defaulting to Discover mode and is annoying.. I think the new 3xx series eliminated CRT all together..

OK seems this board is all but dead but one last chance..

I had did a Update for windows and somehow the nVidia did an update of their drivers so what I need to do is get a CLEAN Install of the drivers after removing them.. I tried Driver sweeper but it did NOT clean it 100% is there another program that will clean the OLD drivers before I install the 296.10's??

You could try DriverCleaner.NET (and obviously tick the clean install option in the Nvidia installer)

I would also do this then remove any ghost devices,

Maybe also try removing everything under Monitors, then reboot and let windows re-detect them.

Nvidia has a "clean install" mode built in to their driver. You just need to check the box. Haven't tried it myself, but I hear it works.

Are you running multiple monitors? It may be an issue of the wrong one getting detected or something. Try unplugging the other ones.

I remember I had this same problem (Discover mode would default on each restart) but I can't recall what fixed it. I think I just installed new drivers and it went away.

Same thing happened to me I guess although I have crt mode on my flat panel monitor, i'd just call them on the phone. Ask them to get your projector model number and stuff and they most likely will add it in they're drivers. Just say something like "my crt mode does not work right can you add my projector to the crt mode". Theres nothing to lose and then they know you are a dedicated Nvidia player. Nvidia among its disestablishments is a quite awesome company. I'd even call them on the phone to tell them exactly how you have your setup working. I call them sometimes. It all works out in the end.

Yup. My guess is that they've teamed up with a few monitormanufacturers. Older s-3d solutions and no "uncertified" displays are no longer available. Somebody let the greedy pigs know that they make graphiccards instead of contributing to even more unnecessary mess in modern times of 3d. Just for those short extra bucks....

I don't know exactly when they dropped it but there should be no need to go back too far. 3-4 months or so should be enough.

I would not even be mad, just take a restfull break and press for a thankyou. Nvidias logic is not to tellbyou the truth in what they work for. I do have CRT support on vga on my hdtv monitor. I am on the latest drivers. Maybe even hook up a real crt monitor beside your triple screens. You could use that for reading and diagnosing. If not a crt try a led monitor that has vga beside your triple screens. You should have a least one certified component. I would guess that could be even just your nvidia dongle and glasses. If worse comes to worst just go with tridef and get a new emitter and glasses from 3dtv corp. They have them that should work with tridef on direct 3d 120hz minus down I think.

I cant be certain, but I think its 2.83 which is the last version that supports Generic CRTs (although Dom is suggesting it still works on the latest drivers, can someone else confirm?).

I will say, Nvidia can crash and burn for all I care, they have pissed me off at every turn dealing with 3D. Even now with 3D Vision, they are repeating the whole fiasco, removing support for some displays, failing to update profiles, not even pushing game devs to support 3D Vision.

I've always preferred Nvidia to AMD simply since I prefer their driver support, but I think I might just go AMD once my 3D Vision dies, just to support them. It seems as though DDD has their act together better than Nvidia as well. The only reason I went with Nvidia was their triple screen 3D Vision support, but I dont think I'll need a triple screen 3D setup once I have my Rifts.

As much as I love Nvidia, I ended up building a full AMD rig for my newest computer. AMD is very competitive. A lot of people get down on them (especially the CPUs) but its not that bad. Sure, they are not as fast as Intel/Nvidia, but its good enough and great for the price. Though with IZ3D out of the game, you are basically stuck with DDD if you use an AMD card.

I stopped loving nvidia. I'm not perfect and find it hard to swallow betrayal.

I agree Likay.

Thanks for the confirmation The_Nephilim, i'm glad to hear that generic support is still in there despite reports to the contrary.

I might have to plug in my Z800's again and have some more VR gaming sessions now that the Rift is delayed.
