The large open battlefields and large numbers of troops really suit this game to 3D, however the doubled transparency issues are everywhere and have a large impact on the game. If those were resolved, even with the shadows disabled, Shogun 2 would be a good game to play in 3D. As is, it isn't.

Part II: Required Game Setting Reductions & Adjustments

  • Turned off shadows entirely.
  • QA penalty: 30%
    Total penalties: 1

    Part III: Top Level Anomalies

    Total penalties: 0

    Part IV: Secondary Anomalies

  • Non-solid objects including fire, smoke, lights, haze, and similar blur effects are rendered at screen depth instead of in 3D (e.g. flames appear separated from source or they don't split into left and right views like the rest of the scene).
  • QA penalty: 5% Smoke trails, flames, low level clouds, and water spray particle effects all render at screen depth.
  • Volumentric lights rendered at the wrong depth (e.g. at screen depth). Examples include ambient light or spotlights shining on the ground, wall, or nearby objects.
  • QA penalty: 5% Volumetric light sources in night missions render at screen depth.
