Studios revisit strategy for 3D catalogue re-issues in cinemas

The future of re-releasing catalogue titles in 3D theatrically has grown more uncertain following a series of cancellations and postponements of scheduled 3D re-releases by the major studios. The change in strategy is primarily linked to a series of lacklustre results for recent catalogue re-issues at the box office in the 2012 calendar alongside a potential risk of eroding some of the value of legacy franchises or studio ‘crown jewels’ unnecessarily through a theatrical re-release.
