Cineworld says no major 3D releases hurt trading to date
British cinema chain Cineworld Group Plc said on Wednesday trading for the year to date was hurt by a film schedule which had no major 3D releases.
The operator of cinema complexes throughout the UK and Ireland had been riding high on last year’s 3D boom, which helped it attract audiences in spite of pressure on consumer budgets.
“This contrasts with the comparative period which included ‘Avatar’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’, both very successful 3D films which had a major impact on box office, retail and other income,” the company said in a statement.
