3D Summit Speakers Talk Up Blu-ray

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. — Only a couple dozen 3D Blu-ray Disc titles have been announced so far, causing concern among some industry observers that 3DTV and 3D Blu-ray may have a tough time getting off the ground.
But by research firm Screen Media’s count, 100 3DTVs and nearly a dozen 3D Blu-ray players were announced or released during the first half of the year, and by 2014 more than 20% of U.S. households will be ready for 3D content.
Besides 3D gaming and 3D sports broadcasts, those 3D viewers at home are going to want more content, and Blu-ray is going to be the vehicle, Screen Digest analysts said at the 3D Entertainment Summit.
“Packaged media is right at the cutting edge of this technology,” said Helen Davis Jayalath, senior home entertainment analyst for Screen Digest.
