LG Electronics unveiled its 47- and 55-inch 3D LED-backlit 3D LCD TVs on August 2 in Taiwan and aims to ship 1,000 units in 2010 to take 30% of the local 3D TV market, according to LG Taiwan.

LG also introduced its other 3D products including LCD monitors, full HD projectors and Blu-ray Disc (BD) players to the Taiwan market.

GfK has estimated Taiwan’s 3D TV market at 300 units in 2010, but LG is more optimistic, expecting the local market to reach 3,000 units. LG indicated that overall 3D TV shipments in Taiwan were under 100 units in the first half of the year, as there were not too many products available in the market.

LG’s 55-inch model features direct-type LED backlighting technology and comes with shutter glasses for 3D viewing. It is priced at NT$169,000 (US$5,328.7), about NT$20,000 cheaper than a same-size 3D model from Samsung Electronics.
