RealD to Demonstrate 3D Gaming Technology at E3 on Unreal Engine 3
LOS ANGELES – (Business Wire) RealD Inc., a leading 3D technology provider for cinema, consumer electronics and professional applications, announced today that it will showcase its technology for 3D console gaming at E3, June 15-17. Leveraging the stereoscopic RealD Format, which has been adopted by many major consumer electronics companies for integration into their 3D TVs, the RealD gaming toolkit will be running on Unreal Engine 3 – showcasing new gameplay options like head tracking and auto camera. Also demonstrated will be enhanced 3D graphics delivered by algorithms that address issues inherent with 3D game development including eye fatigue and the perception of depth across an entire line of sight.
Meetings and demonstrations will be held by invitation only and can be scheduled by emailing E3@RealD.com.
“We chose Unreal Engine 3 as our first go-to-market platform because of its tremendous flexibility and popularity,” said Steve Shannon, EVP of Consumer Electronics at RealD. “The UE3 community includes some of the most progressive developers in the world, and we look forward to engaging them to take gaming to new heights with 3D.”
RealD 3D gaming technology allows for existing titles to be converted by developers to render 3D for game consoles and PCs. Able to be integrated with any game or gaming engine, the technology improves 3D gameplay by managing disparity in real-time as scenes change, assuring the appropriate levels of 3D across an entire depth-of-field when, for example, a scene is changing from indoors to outdoors. RealD technology also delivers appropriate disparity for all objects on the screen as proximity and viewing angles change.
