3D TV about to kick off

The government media regulator has approved plans to broadcast this year’s rugby league State of Origin matches and soccer World Cup matches in 3D.
The Australian Communications and Media Authority has approved applications by Channel Nine and SBS to use the sporting events to conduct ”scientific trials” of the new television technology.
The special licence, which runs for two months from May 19, requires Nine and SBS to manage telephone hotlines to respond to viewer queries and inform viewers the broadcasts are for a trial period. The trial covers the five mainland state capitals as well as Newcastle and Wollongong.
