Burton: 3-D shouldn’t be forced on every film

CANNES — Big event movies, even pictures like his own mega-hit Alice in Wonderland in 3D, are not a death knell for more conventional pictures, Tim Burton said Wednesday.
Burton, who is the surprise, flamboyant choice as president of this year’s Cannes Film Festival jury, told a press conference that 3-D should not be forced on every film just to make them more viable in theatres as events.
“It’s absurd! I always fight where it’s going to be one way and that’s it,” he said. “3D is just one tool in the filmmaker’s toolbag and should only be used when appropriate.”
