Verizon Communications said today it will air two New York Yankees games in 3D format, marking its push into the nascent market of television in the third dimension.

The telecommunications firm will provide the YES network’s 3D telecasts of Yankees-Seattle Mariners games on July 10 and 11 to FiOS TV subscribers. The telecasts are being sponsored by 3D TV maker Panasonic and satellite operator DirecTV.

“We believe the 3D images of the action on the baseball field will be so real that viewers truly will feel like they are in the front row,” said Terry Denson, a vice president at Verizon, adding viewers “will be tempted to duck their heads at the first foul ball that zips their way on the screen.”
