World Cup in 3D coming to town
Live In theatres Landing event a huge boost for Montreal company
When the World Cup of Soccer kicks off in June, thousands around the world will be able to watch it live in 3D at local movie theatres – thanks to a Montreal company.
Point St. Charles-based Sensio Technologies Inc., founded in 1999, gave a demonstration of its 3D capabilities yesterday. The company has devised the software that compresses an image shot live, and then puts it back together on a screen.
Landing soccer’s World Cup is a huge boost for the company, because it’s the world’s most-watched sporting event.
The event will be broadcast live in 3D in more than 1,000 theatres in at least 26 countries.
“There will definitely be a few theatres in Montreal that will show the event,” said Louis Rousseau, the company’s vice-president of marketing and communications.
