NVIDIA Weighs in on Avatar in S-3D

The other day, MTBS got its hands on the demo version of Avatar: The Game. Our initial findings were that all the S-3D solutions were well implemented except NVIDIA’s GeForce 3D Vision shutter glasses.

Based on information we had from game developers and earlier NVIDIA conferences, our analysis concluded that NVIDIA’s implementation was not "native" like the others, and was instead driver based. Our opinion was that the available drivers were not yet optimized for Avatar, and this created the visual problems discussed.

NVIDIA wished to correct our findings and shared this:

"Avatar uses our SDKs to generate both of the full resolution cameras for support, not our override driver mode. Our automatic driver mode isn’t used in the game. Any anomalies you experienced were because the profile that we currently have released online was based upon this automatic driver mode. The next driver mode completely removes that profile, allowing the game to look perfect in 3D."

Excellent news! We will share updated NVIDIA screenshots and captures as soon as we are able. We have edited our findings in the meantime.
