3D Bloodbaths, Panels, Free Offers, and SuperBowl!

The first report is in from the Stereoscopic Displays & Applications Conference.

From left to right: Ray Zone, Ian McDowall, Perry Hoberman, Lenny Lipton, Lanny Smoot

Check it out, and read what dinner with Lenny Lipton and video games have in common. Learn how MTBS member Collin Brack is curing cancer with stereoscopic 3D technology, and see who the chick magnet was at the conference (sorry, it wasn’t you Collin).

Finally, get a summary of the killer gaming panel which included MTBS, iZ3D, NVIDIA, DDD, and Lightspeed Design. Did everyone make it out alive? Are people on opposite sides of the fence? Who? Read and find out!

Speaking of fences, Jon Peddie Research and MTBS have been having a bit of a public squabble over the viability of stereoscopic 3D technology. Is it viable? Is anyone going to be successful? Are standards that important?

Veritas et Visus’ 3rd Dimension newsletter is a paid circulation journal, but the debate was so heated, their publisher Mark Fihn has agreed to email a copy to whoever wants one. Just send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and he will send you a copy of the 107 page PDF file. MTBS has been working with Mark’s newsletter for some time now, and it is consistently an interesting read. We will reprint the article tomorrow, but a short email will get you a sneak peak today. Share your opinions in our discussion forums.

Finally, did any of you see the Superbowl Commercials in S-3D based on the ColorCode 3-D technology? MTBS is based in Canada, so we didn’t get to see it on TV. Was it comfortable? Did you see the 3D? Is it better than red/blue anaglyph? You can view the trailer in ColorCode 3-D’s gallery, and share your opinions in our discussion forums.
