The market just got bigger again.  FOVE has made FOVE 0, their first eye-tracked VR head mounted display, available for pre-order for $549 USD.  In addition to boasting a 2560 X 1440 high resolution display and up to 100 degrees of field of view, what makes this HMD tick is its low latency eye tracking.  Eye tracking makes it possible to add artistic features based on where the user is looking; like having game characters directly look back at you or having interactions based on what you are gazing at.  Another big potential is foveated rendering which dramatically reduces the required processing power of virtual reality by concentrating resources only on graphics you can physically see instead of the whole display.

This particular edition of the FOVE HMD is optically tracked with infrared cameras and is similar in design to the Oculus Rift CV1, though Lochlainn Wilson, CTO of FOVE, tells us that this implementation does not require a camera synchronization.  It is currently designed to be a positionally tracked seated experience, and efforts are in play for the next release to be based on Valve’s Lighthouse tracking solution.

As for content support, the FOVE 0 is being promoted as being compatible with content programmed to run on both the SteamVR and OSVR SDK platforms.
