We have a triple whammy for everyone today! First, congrats to Cloudhead Games for beating their $65K target and raising almost $72,000 so far. Well earned!

As you know, the Vireio Perception drivers have become very popular because of their support of VR devices like the Oculus Rift and its head tracking. Unfortunately, a major problem with HMDs is it’s very difficult to calibrate the stereoscopic 3D settings. For some, it’s because they don’t really know what they are doing. For others, it’s because you can’t really see what is happening in both eyes at the same time in a comparative way. The result is a painful experience.

Schneider-Hicks Optical Calibration Tool
Today, we have taken steps to solve all that. In the latest beta version of the Perception drivers, they now feature the Schneider-Hicks Optical Calibration Tool (SHOCT). When used properly, this feature will help make sure your 3D settings are within a range that your eyes will find both comfortable and effective. Special thanks to John Hicks for tirelessly coding this feature and potentially curing VR headaches around the world!
Finally, we have written a special settings guide for HMD users. It’s a bit of a read, but once you get through this document you will have a firm understanding of how things work, how your eyes interact with these devices, and how to get the best visual settings on the spot. While there is room for improvement, we think it will be very helpful for a lot of people.
