Happy Halloween, Crysis 2 Update

By October 31, 2012 April 3rd, 2020 News

Happy Halloween everyone!

While this is really old news, DDD released 3.6.8 Beta 1 drivers last week. This in itself isn’t THAT big a deal, but one of the added profiles is Crysis 2 DX11 with dynamic shadow support. We haven’t tried this yet, but if it works well, it’s a major accomplishment because Crysis 2 was released as a 2D+Depth game, and you know how we feel about 2D+Depth (not good!).

This profile means it’s the first time the game can be played in true stereoscopic 3D form with working shadows to boot!  Whereas before, Crysis 2 did not qualify as a GameGrade3D submission because of its 2D+Depth limitation, DDD users are encouraged to make a fresh submission based on these drivers (in true 3D mode). We want to know how it turned out!

Not yet tested, but very interesting get true S3D experience :anaglyph

It’s definitely better but not perfect. Borderline playable if you can handle some odd reflections, sky rendering at screen level and some shadows not being 100% aligned. I’d still take this over Crytek’s virtual 3D any day :)

I’m out of the mob on this one maybe, but the integrated native 3D support of Crysis 2 was perfect for me,
now I’ve installed DDD Tridef and can’t aim anymore because the front sight looks doubled in the distance, plus
I can’t edit the cfg anymore to re-add this line r_StereoSupportAMD=1, how can I solve this mess?

If anyone’s interested, I’ve solved by activating the Power 3D mode, can’t wait for Crysis 3 now ;-)
