Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook
One of the big emerging markets are Ultrabooks. Yes, notebooks, netbooks, and now…ultrabooks. Unlike their netbook cousins, ultrabooks are supposed to feature more processing power, have solid state hard drives, and offer unmatched amounts of battery power. Most importantly, they are ultra portable and hopefully, ULTRA practical. The one thing that isn’t ultra is the price (hopefully!).
We have just learned from Jon Peddie Research that Intel (one of the big drivers of this technology) is recommending stereoscopic 3D support and touch screens as part of the specification for their Haswell-based units. We should start to see these 3D compliant devices in second quarter 2013 if their manufacturing recommendations pan out.
JPR also forwarded the above clip of the Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook. While it’s not 3D compliant, it’s a good sample of what these things are starting to look like.
