Improved Shadow Support on its Way!

DDD Logo

One of the biggest caveats with the DDD TriDef Ignition drivers (let's face it, it's the BIGGEST caveat) is the software occasionally removes the special effects that hamper 3D compatibility.  So try as you might, some game setting menu options won't impact the visual results no matter what you do in 3D mode.  This isn't unique to DDD, as Nvidia 3D Vision often recommends certain settings to be turned off - the difference being that they ask you to do it, rather than turning it off by default.

The most common effect that gets impacted by this in the DDD camp are dynamic shadows.  These are the floor and wall shadows that change as characters walk or move around the game's virtual world.  It's a big problem because when shadows are completely removed, games can get their score reduced by as much as 30% in GameGrade3D.

The good news is that DDD is working to overcome this challenge.  Their latest beta (Ignition 3.5.30 Beta 1) features a new shadow rendering technique in their Fear 3 profile.  According to DDD, each game still needs to have a customized profile to benefit from this technique, but with more testing, future driver releases are expected to have better shadow support than previously possible.
