We normally don’t report on AMD or Nvidia driver updates unless there is some major innovation.  AMD has just released Catalyst 12.7 beta, and according to Tom’s Hardware, their software writers deserve the weekend off.
More than that, these drivers are responsible for TH’s statement: “No longer is Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 670 faster than the Radeon HD 7970. And, in fact, these new drivers are largely responsible for the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition card outmaneuvering GeForce GTX 680 in most of the tests we ran.”
According to the driver’s release notes, AMD claims performance improvements in the following games:
  • Up to 25% in Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
  • Up to 3% in Battlefield 3
  • Up to 6% in Batman: Arkham City
  • Up to 3% in Dues Ex: Human Revolution
  • Up to 6% in Crysis 2
  • Up to 15% in Total War: Shogun
  • Up to 8% in Crysis Warhead
  • Up to 5% in Just Cause 2
  • Up to 10% in Dirt 3
MTBS members are encouraged to give the drivers a try, and let us know if these improvements translate well to the stereoscopic 3D gaming experience as well.
