There was a story circulating that stereoscopic 3D is all but dead at GDC 2012, and nothing is further from the truth. Kris’ first busy day at GDC includes coverage of AMD, Sony, Nintendo, and 4th Dimension Display. In fact, a big trend as Kris puts it, is that stereoscopic 3D gaming is no longer being discussed as a technology add-on or a spec. It’s now being discussed from an artist’s point of view. That’s very exciting because this means that game developers are getting the tools and skills needed to release effective stereoscopic 3D games.
Speaking of Sony and AMD, if you’re drooling over Sony’s 24″ 3D display and AMD’s Eyefinity 3D setup, the 3D monitor (with games) is the first prize in MTBS’ Birthday Bonanza contest! Also, the Sapphire HD 7950 GPU (another prize) is Eyefinity ready – complete with horespower!
