Sony Reveals Japan Launch of 3D HMD

It's a crazy 3D world.  "Geeky glasses", "dorky glasses", "glasses are uncomfortable to wear", "too expensive", "headache inducing"...the list goes on and on about what the press will say about 3D glasses!

Sony HMD Prototype at CES 2011

What's the solution?  Take those unbearably light and comfortable glasses, and turn them into a helmet with miniature screens for each eye.  Yes, that will provide the fashion coolness and practicality that the critical 3D press is hunting for.  Clearly Sony is on to something as you can't throw a stone without hitting some blog out there talking about their upcoming HMZ-T1 head mounted display being released in Japan in Novemeber.

We are being tongue in cheek about this as it really is a cool display.  We sampled a prototype at CES 2011, and if they can get the weight down and make it comfortable to wear, Sony could have a winning product here.  The full product will feature 720P resolution per eye, 5.1 surround sound, and is expected to be priced at less than $800 in US funds.  For now, this is only a Japanese release.
