Star Wars Saga in 3D...First Release in 2012!

Get a 3D camera, girls!

"Getting good results on a stereo conversion is a matter of taking the time and getting it right...it takes a critical and artistic eye along with an incredible attention to detail to be successful. It is not something that you can rush if you want to expect good results. For Star Wars we will take our time, applying everything we know both aesthetically and technically to bring audiences a fantastic new Star Wars experience." - John Knoll, Visual Effects Supervisor for Industrial Light & Magic

Stewie as Darth Vader

Finally some official word on the Star Wars saga getting converted to stereoscopic 3D, with Phantom Menace set for theatrical release in 2012.  Be sure to check out this video with John Knoll, Visual Effects Supervisor for Industrial Light & Magic.

While this is a few years away, Star Wars is likely going to be a critical film for the 2D/3D conversion industry.  Recently blasted for a series of 3D films which were either rushed to market or poorly converted, could George Lucas be to conversion what James Cameron was to native 3D?  Be that as it may, it's a touch cruel to make Phantom Menace the FIRST release in 2012.  Even Darth Vader has a conscience.
