Hi all,
My company has been using eDimensional glasses and 21" CRTs for 3d stereoscopic viewing. We use it specifically for CAD/CAE 3d simulation viewing under Linux, nothing action packed.
My question is with all 21" CRTs discontinued and hard to find, what's the next best thing to replace them with? It would be nice if it fit on a desk still, and used the eDimensional glasses, but if it has to be a projector or DLP TV then so be it. Are there any LCDs can that produce the same quality? My testing on LCDs hasn't been going well.
What replaces the dying CRT?

i also use cad programs thats why i think that it should be a high quality thing because else it becomes difficult for the eyes. for linux i don't know... never tested it.. but for shure the best solution in your case is a iz3D monitor. the quality is much higher than on shutterglasses, and if you have enough polarized glasses you can have more persons watch at the same time. glasses are cheap.. aroudn 10$.. but as i said i don't know if it supports linux. i don't think, or maybe yes with an emulator.. you could ask at theyr webpage... www.iz3d.com
i would not take a projector setup for cad. i used it at school and after a while it was painful for the eyes (you know, lot of lines and things like that) so i think that in 3d it won't be easier.
if you can find any crt screens (should not be that hard now) then i would stick with it until there are more solutions and maybe some supporting linux too..

It's nothing mainstream, it's actually a post-processor for generic CAD/CAE/mesh/geometry.
It's called GMV, available here from a Los Alamos National Labs scientist:

It really only runs well on Linux and Mac, but that's what we output files to, so we're stuck with it for now. It has a stereographic OpenGL option, and that's what we want all the 3d stereo stuff for.

You could take a look at the Panoram PSP 2400. It looks like it's a product targeting the professionals industry.

The company lists support for Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista so I'm not sure it suits your needs. You might want to ask them about linux and mac support.

I?m new here and know only a bit of the stereo "thing", so correct me please if I?m off base.
so the problem is that the lcd display only support something about 75Hz. and this doesn?t go well with the stereo view. but in 6-7 month we will have LCD @120hz. Then we can use the stereo mode on LCD?s... when I?m right?!?
