[DIY] Stereo on native DVI

OK then, a quick guide.

The signal pin is 7:

This pin carries the DDC data. My projector grounds this pin so I have to disconnect it. But my projector would not get detected when booting unless this pin was connected. You can try it and if your DVI detects fine without this pin, then simply connect the output from here to the signal pin to your dongle or IR emitter.

If it doesn't work then what we have to do is slice into the cable, find the wire carrying data to pin 7. The best way to do it is probably slice a little bit of plastic around the wires to reveal a little metal. Then use a multimeter to detect the resistence to that pin. A resistence of 0 is the pin connection. This wire has to be cut.

Now, we need to use a switch to toggle between the signal going to the projector and going t the emitter. Once the projector is detected fine, you can disconnect this the DDC signal and it should still work perfectly, until the next time the projector needs to be detected by the computer.

We need a 2 position toggle switch (it will have 3 pins). Connect the INCOMING DDC signal from the computer to the middle. Connect the outgoing signal going to the projector to one pine at the side and then the third pin to the signal going to the dongle or the IR emitter.

This is also a good place to insert an inverter (a not gate) if your glases need to be reversed for projector viewing.

Then make sure to tape up any bare wire connectionsso theydont come into contact. Wrap some aluminium foil around where you spliced the DVI cable to shield against interference.

If everything is working OK, toggling the switch to one side will give ormal operation. Toggling the switch to the other position will get you stereo on DVI.

Pretty straight forward... just a little messy :p

Post any problems and ill be happy to help.
