Here are some pics of Far Cry with the iZ3D drivers. See what you think - they were shown at Dimension-3 Expo on a projector. Check out the crosshair accuracy.

iZ3D is aware of the tree bug in the distance (the background trees go in and out of stereo mode when they first appear on the screen).

Has anyone found a tweak that resolves this issue? It appears that when distant vegetation is drawn it is in 2D but once you approach it they suddenly pop into 3D. Any ideas?

Hi Pixel,

in crysis there were options to have sprites instead of real 3D trees. Maybe it's similar with farcry. They replace 3d objects with 2d textures to increase performance (on older systems). So it's no wonder, why they look 2D...

Maybe you can change something about that in the console (it was possible for crysis).

Hi LukePC1, I have tried playing around with different values in the console and config files and haven't found the magic bullet yet. Surely not everyone who has played this games in 3D experiences this. Maybe it has something to do with the display drivers? I don't know but it sure does spoil the affect though...

Well you guys have pretty much hit the nail on the head, the trees in Far Cry do turn into sprites when they reach a certain distance from the player to preserve computing power for the details right in front of the player, and the sprites probably don't handle well with the 3D Stereo.

Now there is a setting in the fay Cry Configuration tool called "e_vegetation_sprites_distance_ratio" under the Environment Quality tab. The higher you set this setting the longer the distance will be before a tree or bush will turn into a sprite, but since there are more full trees on the screen this setting will reduce performance on lower end machines. The minimum setting is 0.9, but you can keep increasing the distance as high as you want as long as you have a PC that can handle the load.

This setting doesn't actually solve the problem of sprite vegetation not being drawn in 3D Stereo, but by increasing the distance until sprites appear can help reduce the appearance of sprites and this 3D problem that comes with them. But if your fortunate enough to have a really powerful PC you could turn this setting high enough that you wont see any sprites at all.
