You are right, that there is a merit in diversity. And I am sure that Palmer made quite a few bad calls and quite a few mmm ... misrepresentations (unintentionally of course) of competing products. As an engineer he has to make 100 bad calls to find right solution and that solution might change if there is some technological breakthrough. As an engineer and as a person he makes mistakes and grows, I do not think that it would be a good use of his time (and mental resources) to start every interview with a big list of what he thought will not work, but now he changed his mind and so on.
Yes, not everything what they say is be all and end all, but overallCrescent Bay is the best consumer VR headset.

Can u prove Darth Luckey is an ignorant "unintentional" bumbling fool? Certainly he will give 100 million of his 600 million to the community at mtbs3d that gave ideas. Feedback. Testing. Etc? He is a nice guy after all. ; . Spock said idic. Infinite diversity infinite combinations. Greedy tyrants will be left behind as the rest of us open source types out innovate their dark closed source walled gardens. Chomp on that macho man.
(PS macho man is Palmers favorite wrestler. Scotsman Roddy piper is mine but of course)

I disagree. Palmer has been working with many various HMD's for a number of years before which he then became the head of arguably the biggest VR HMD company on the planet. I feel more than secure trusting his word on it.

U deserve every darkness about to be heaped on u fool. When Tesla moved from France to New York in 1884, the penniless immigrant got a job at the Edison Machine Works as an engineer. Within a year, he was already solving technical problems for the company, and Edison approached him with the task of redesigning the DC generators for the entire company. He famously offered Tesla $50,000 if he could make the generators more efficient, and a few months later, Tesla came back with an improved design. But when he asked for his money, Edison laughed and said, “When you become a full-fledged American, you will appreciate an American joke.” Since Tesla had redesigned the generators while working for Edison, he had no claim to the patent, and essentially got nothing out of the agreement (although Edison offered him a raise of $10 per week. Tesla resigned on the spot).
A few years later, Tesla built his AC induction motor, and the War of the Currents began. Edison’s main campaign strategy was to prove that AC, which used much higher voltages than DC, was simply too dangerous to use in homes. And to prove that, he went to ruthless extremes. Most famously, he organized demonstrations executing stray dogs and cats, and later cows and horses. One of the first demonstrations took place in 1888, with the electrocution of a large dog named Dash. Edison first sent 1,000 volts of DC through the dog to prove that he would be—if not unharmed—still alive. Then, he hooked the dog up to 300 volts of AC and smoked the pup into oblivion.
And he was just getting warmed up. In 1903, Edison created his largest demonstration yet: He sent 6,600 volts of AC through a circus elephant named Topsy while 1,500 people stood by and watched. The execution was filmed and later released under the name Electrocuting an Elephant.
The real test came in 1890 though, and it was no ordinary animal: The victim was a convicted murderer named William Kemmler. Edison campaigned for the opportunity to create a “more humane” method of capital punishment and, still in the midst of the War of the Currents, he opted to create the electric chair with AC. After all, what better way to prove the dangers of AC than by killing a man with it? And he couldn’t have asked for a more visceral demonstration: The first charge burned through Kemmler’s insides for a whole 17 seconds, after which he was still gasping for breath. The second charge lasted four minutes, and Kemmler burst into flame before finally dying

Geekmaster had suggested very innovative Fresnel ideas. He was shot down by one sith Luckey. Is it possible like Tesla and Edison electrocuting cats to sway the public on ac v dc that someone with poor ethics will steal ideas privately, publicly try to wreck the tech and minds and morale of those behind it then profit off that very tech later? All is fair in love and war eh? Humans that see world through rosy colored Fresnel lens deserve their destruction for being idiots! Milk these sheep good padawan. Darth Luckey rides again! In the movie the usual suspects what was the greatest trick the devil ever pulled? In the movie they live with rowdy Roddy piper was everyone made a fool?
I am so pissed!

yeah but the real point you should be getting from that is that palmer might be too quick to discard things that dont fit his initial ultimate vision.
Infinite-eye was using fresnel lenses and palmer just talked trash about how they were terrible for VR image quality for various reasons and should not be used in a HMD. he still dismissed them when people drew light path diagrams, talked about how the image quality of fresnels were actually pretty good (some of us even bought the same optolife fresnels in the infinite-eye to see for ourselves)
yet now everyone is acting like Fresnel is the new big best thing and hes a genius for using them.
(not you personally but) lets have less circle-jerk apple-esq fanboyism in thinking that oculus is the only company that can decree whats good and whats bad for VR because like everything its never so simple. if the past few days has shown us anything its that there are many people now working on VR and not every approach is going to be the same, but more importantly not every approach should be the same as the Rift.

you not only missed the whole point of what I said but then demonstrated that extreme steve jobs type fanboyism I was also suggesting people dial back a bit.
dont get me wrong, palmer is a great guy, surely a genius for a variety of reasons but he is not the god some of you people make him out to be. his approach is also not the only one so there is plenty of room for more research using other components or multi screen layouts. as with the previously given example fresnels he avoided them but then obviously later found they could have useful properties in his specific implementation.
I think palmer would be the first to agree that there is a world of people out there, people with PHDs in making optics that could come up with some crazy geometry negative refraction wonder lens, teams of people doing research in other fields that could have side benefits for VR, advancements in material science, etc.
people need to serious STOP thinking anything oculus uses or says is the pinnacle of tech and end of vr research. forcing a very narrow focus is the best way to stagnate a technology.
lets not shut down ideas. any company should make whatever HMDs they want and then just naturally the best ones will provide direction for the future.

Cad palmer has 600 million dollars. He has told me he doesn't really care about big money. I would say without help here at mtbs3d he would not be where he is today. How much of that 600 million will he share? Jaron lanier says an economy where 1 can have 600 million and the rest that gave data ideas feedback or just a sounding board like palmer used this community for years for them to get nothing is wrong. Palmer gave is personal word to geekmaster for a dk2. He lied. He has no integrity. 600 million and could not keep his promise to geekmaster. Guess he can't afford a few hundred bucks with 600 million. U deserve everything coming to u cad with your hero worship in ways the movie dune warns and ways the bible warns. This community collectively is like gully foyle from tiger tiger stars my destination. Used for all its worth and abandoned like a used condom. Palmer drives a Tesla. How ironic - he is like Edison though. Made a promise to geekmaster and lied. Like Edison did Tesla. This is why I am going to enjoy uncle butch and congressman Wilson and the rest of the government rip him a new bum-exit. I have zero respect for someone worth 600 million lie to people like geekmastrr
