Hello,

for my next winter vaccation I'm planning to build an action cam ontop of my helmet.

To make clear what I am about to build I made an image of it.
http://www.mtbs3d.com/gallery/displayim ... ?pos=-2492" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm currently looking fo a good pair of cams.
I'm have an eye on the Oregon ATC 3K Digitale Action-Kamera ( http://www.alternate.de/html/product/Vi ... l3=Kameras" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )

Do you any other good cams in a simular shape?

I think that is the best allthough the resolution in this:

is 3 times higher (720p @ 60fps).

Have you seen the VholdR (http://www.vholdr.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)? Might be the perfect fit for what you want.

They also have an HD version but its like $300.

Cirk or anyone, here is an 8 megapixel cam for cheap, how do you think it should stack up against the other cams listed here?

Cyber found this one: http://www.zetronix.com/product_info.ph ... cts_id=113" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Also here is an idea, the cam is in your sunglasses, should give much better control than a helmet no? A helmet may jostle around more than your sunglasses. You just wire in 2 HD pinhole cameras into the sides of the glasses.

I've seen the contour cam, but only the HD one, wich is definetly too expensive.

I'll get an deeper look at the SD variant.

That think is great, but it is a web cam...

That Glasses cam is cool, but it will need many modifications o the glasses to make it stereo...

If you buy cams that are not made for outdoor action purposes I'd like to suggest putting something in front of the lenses to protect them from dust/dirt/debris, a sunlight or ND filter would be good if the cams accept filters or maybe you could cover the lenes with a piece of clear acrylic or even some clear static sticker material like cell phone screen scratch guard.

if you have any old x10 wireless cameras theres a video out there that will show you how to dissasseble them and turn them into a helmet camera...much more cost effective and the parts are user replaceable! (google : x10 wireless helmet camera) I have that same oregon camera the only thing i was dissappointed with is that is cannot output what it is currently recording so no augmented reality with that guy.

What resolutions does it record in? I quickly looked at the page but I did not find the info.

Its VGA quality, 640x480 @ 26fps. Not bad considering the size and other aspects of the whole kit.

People who like to fly radio controlled aeroplanes via a video feed (aka video piloting) are really into small robust cameras and hacking them. I am too because I want to do stereo movies in architectural models ...
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=936068" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

if you go to your local electronics store you will find tiny "reversing cameras" for cars -- these are CCD cameras and very sensitive to light but dont have much dynamic range or resolution. The are the smallest cameras you can find easily though. They have global shutters which are good for high action (and stabilization postprocessing). They are analog cameras so you will need a PVR (personal video recorder) or a laptop with a capture card in a backpack for mobile use..
