GRID - CODEMASTERS Geo11, dgVooDoo2, DX9 games

Post by petermg »

Just thought I'd post this here, didn't see anything about this.
I found something VERY interesting...
I'm on the latest Nvidia drivers and I have the stereoscopic driver installed and I'm using a 4K 3D Passive display with an EDID making it appear as one approved by Nvidia.
So I launched GRID and it wasn't in 3D. I've had luck with DX9 games just automatically launching in 3D when I have Stereoscopic 3D enabled in the Nvidia Control Panel.
But this game wasn't launching in 3D.
I tried a few things.
I tried dgVoodoo2 to wrap the DX9 to DX11 and use Geo11.
For some reason it only showed me some text but most of the screen was just black.
This had something to do with the dgVoodoo2 wrapper.
Ok so I disabled it by setting "disable and passthru to real DirectX".
Now magically 3D works perfectly.
I did have to disable MSAA for it to work.
However even with MSAA disabled, the game would NOT launch in 3D until I did this.
This is super weird because it seems something is happening that is allowing the game to launch in 3D by using dgVoodoo2 and then setting it to disabled?!
But if I don't use dgVoodoo2, it doesn't work!?
So I'm going to try to use this trick with any other DX9 games that I come across that aren't launching in 3D and see if this makes it work for any of them.
I wonder why it's working like this though, so strange. Cool, but strange.
