60 vs 120 Hz / problem with HDMI 3D compatibility

Post by alphonz »

Hi,

I haven't played 3D since two years. Now I started again because of „Little Nightmares II“. And I must say LN II is pure 3D magic!
Nevertheless I have a problem. After a few peacuful Nightmare days and nights :woot I got an error message:
"Current mode 1280x720@120 is not HDMI 3D compatible. Please try 1280x720@60 Hz or 2920x1080@24Hz."
Well, I play via "3d TV Play" (driver 425,31) using my Acer X1623H projector (Full HD). That means I need: 1280 x 720 pixels with 60 Hz (Don’t laugh! Form me it’s great :-) )
But suddenly something(?) switched to 120 Hz and I don’t know how to switch back without totally reinstalling everything. (In "3D-fix-manager/Settings/Display Profiles" I can still see the 60 Hz. But it seems to get ignored?!

My suspicion: the trouble started when i wanted to play the game „Inside“ in 3D . Years ago it was another pure 3D magic game for me. I can’t get it working any more in 3D. And with that the 120 Hz trouble began…

Does anybody have an idea what to do?
Best wishes from Germany…

P.S.: A few days ago I bought "WRC4" at Steam for 0,99 Euro. There’s a direct possibility in the game to switch to 60 Hz and that works fine in 3D during this trouble.

Stating the obvious but did you go into Nvidia Control Panel on the resolution page and make sure your at 60hz?

Thanks for your answers!

@Greg: it seems that it doesn’t make any difference for any game which frequency is active in Nvidia Control Panel. Of course I can switch from 120 Hz/2D to 60 Hz 3D in the Panel. The result happens immediately in the moment of switching. But it has no consequence for the game a few minutes later!?

@3DNovice: interesting topic! I will study that. But probably(?) that will cause some new problems with the projector and the (non passive) shutter glasses…

Fort the moment I just want to get back to the point three days ago, where Little Nightmares II was perfect in 3D – without permanent game- or Win10-new installation.

Just for your info:
I have the same problem with a total new Win10 (21/2) and with an old Win10 (19/9) version on the same PC. (I use driver 425.31 via Losti's "3D-Vision Driver Changer". I use "3Dfix manager". The games are all from Steam.) The only difference I realized beetween old and new Win10 version: with the new version I have to repair the „permanent 3D-mode“-error with "3D-Vision Driver Changer" after restarting the PC. With the old version I don’t need to repair the driver. But the 120 Hz problem appears also after some time. (As I said: probably connected with the game „Inside“?)
And don’t forget: „WRC4“ still works in 3D because oft he 60Hz switch in the game!

Thank you! I tried CRU now. But LN II via 3Dfix manager seems to hijack the video resolution.
I get the same error "Current mode 1280x720@120 is not HDMI 3D compatible."
And afterwards I'm back at 120 Hz :-(
