Any Reason to Stay on Windows 1809 For 3D Vision?

So is there any reason to stay back at Windows 1809? I've been seeing people say that later Windows versions gave them performance boosts in CPU bound 3D Vision games.

For those staying with 1809, why are you staying there and is it because you've actually had issues with later versions?

The advantage of 1809 is that it's the last Windows 10 version that doesn't requires driver hack, which could be detected as cheating on some multiplayer games.

The inconvenient is that this version is not supported anymore (no security fixes).

Personaly, I use Windows LTSC 2019 (it's 1809, without Cortana/Store/All MS Bullshits, but with security updates up to 2028).

Driver hack? YOu mean where we patch in 3D Vision to 425?

I mean the hexedit in a DLL we all do since Windows 1903.
That's not related to the driver version we use (that's what 3DFixManager says)

Does 3DFM do this hexedit? I've never heard of it. What does the hexedit do?

Yes it does, and it warns you about it.

it seems that games using EAC now completely block 3dvision altogether on windows versions after 1809. Unless disabled. (confirmed this yesterday....assholes)
This means anything Online with EAC you want to play is probably a no-go.

I'm currently contemplating rolling back to 1809 permanently.

I only do offline. If I want to play online MP, I'd boot into my other partition that has the latest drivers. But with what you said, I wonder if that would mean I need to uninstall the hacked Nvidia driver and the EAC bypass

You have a working link to LTSC 2019? PM me

I did after this post and can highly recommend it. Windows updates this version till 2028/2029 and 3D Fix Manager also recognizes this operating system and doesn’t apply or suggest the driver hack.
It uses a lot less drive space is basically the PRO version of 1809 with continuous updates.

Highly recommended and it doesn’t block online access for EAC games and I like playing online.

I thought there were performance advantages to going to a higher Windows 10 version. Especially for that 3 core bug?

I made an image of my installation in Windows 11 so can be back in Windows 11 in 5 minutes (Acronis TrueImage works great for this). But yes…. I clean installed Windows 10 LTSC 2019 which is basically 1809 Pro. With security and other fixes till Jan 2029.

No driver hack needed, games run better in 3D smoother and I got games to work with 3D on that usually would crash if they are DX12 only (like Assassins Creed Valhalla). So my personal opinion is that it has advantages.

Performance hasn’t been worse but I haven’t run any tests but playing games runs as with Windows 11 optically.

I just swap between the two on boot using a VHD.

@a31632 where did you get a 3DV fix for Valhalla? I would like to get one for AC Origins

Hi, there is no 3DV fix for Valhalla nor for Origins. Origins works pretty good (but not perfect) in compatibility mode. You will need to tweak depth and convergence to your own liking. Same for Odyssey by the way.

For Valhalla it’s more complicated as it used DX12 only. As mentioned here on the forum there are no fixes for DX12 in 3D Vision (yet).
With Windows LTSC 2019 that doesn’t need the driver hack 3D Vision does kick in (as opposed to my other configuration with later versions including Win11 where it would crash while loading the game with 3D Vision activated.
There are artifacts and game crashes when playing if no “tricks” are applied though.
What I did was create a profile in 3D Fix Manager, included the “compatibility mode” checkbox and run the game through Fix Manager (so not through Ubisoft directly). That way (even though compatibility mode is intended to work only for DX11 games) the mode kicks in despite it being a DX12 game.
I had to play around with convergence as depth was not great so not super but better dan “flat 2D”. With cutscenes I have crashes so now when cutscenes start I switch to 2D quickly and when I can play again switch to 3D.
Not ideal but it works.

So is there any way to downgrade from 1909 to 1809 without reinstalling the whole system?

I’m afraid not, clean installation is the only option

I don't know if I have the patience to reinstall everything, maybe I'll dual boot with a 1809 partition.

At some point I will probably do a dual boot with the latest version of windows and only use 1809 when needed, I have rolled back now and it works perfectly. (I had an image I saved just in case.)
I am getting complaints from the OS it's out of date, so if anyone can find any of those business branch licenses that allow updates till 2029 let us know )

1809 and latest version of hacked driver (without windows hak obviously) and everything is working perfectly including EAC games.

The version that updates is the “Enterprise edition” LTSC 2019. So a license key alone isn’t helping. You will need to update your 1809 version to this version. That will also get rid of the error message that your “OS is out of date”

Can you please give some info about this hexedit? I keep hearing about it but haven't managed to find information about it.

Also, can you post a screenshot from 3D Fix Manager with the relevant option?

PS: I am on Kepler (Alienware 17 3D Vision laptop with 770M card) so my driver version is 425.31, so driver version is not a problem.

3DNovice wrote: Fri Feb 03, 2023 6:35 am I believe that he is referring to the driver hack.

I might be wrong on any part of the following... but AFAIK
the driver hack is only required for UE4 dx11 games
the driver hack is only required if using a driver newer than 425.31
the driver hack is only needed if using a Windows 10 version newer than 1903

Please, if any of this is wrong, can someone correct it or perhaps also confirm

You are correct but Windows version without driver hack needed is 1809. Any version past this one needs the driver hack (not 1903)
