I know this experience all too well. What helped me in many cases was to use "Windows button + TAB". Then drag the frozen program to the + at the top. Then click the first window to access task manager. But there are those rare cases where signing out is the only option.

Using ctrl+alt+del or ctrl+alt+esc would open task manager, but it wouldn't overlay on the game window thus I could not select end task.

So choosing the sign out option to close out the current window session was the only solution.

But I stumbled upon Super Alt F4 over on GHacks and it works great.

As with anything, use at your own risk!

Best way is to kill the exe file by windows key and Type in tskill exename (without .exe) and hit enter. Or taskkill /im exename.exe. if you Open task Manager you can move down with Direction key down to the Prozess and if selected press del key and enter.
