Are you kidding? It's just shitty 2D ;)

And yeah hopefully it will be Vulkan :) or SD3D if it's Dx12 :(

I heard a horrible rumor UE5 has baked in Easy Anti Cheat. That would create problems for any wrapper support regardless

I actually thought to post something about the revolution of this crazy engine since I wasn't in the loop for a few months. It might become the new "gold standard". They really flexed their muscles here. Think spacegames might start to take of from this platform predominantly. The way it handles extreme repetition of polygons without intense hardware strain is insane. It makes up for the colossal gap between software and hardware. Might be one of the primary reasons why stereoscopic development has not become a prominent platform in the gaming environment yet. As James Cameron had to wait a decade to put his vision into practice. Just some wishful thinking.

I actually finished Senua's Sacrifice VR edition on Wednesday and it was one of the most unique games I've ever experienced so far. Was a bit disappointed in the details and graphics since I might have expected a bit too much in this regard. Dont know if it was severely trimmed to fit into the Virtual Reality spectrum? Also very hard to balance the light and dark scenes in VR with oled. The performance was perfect though. The chapter where it was almost pitch black and you had to rely on hearing got a bit terrifying. Also the other chapter where you were surrounded by agonizing people and titans lost in hell/purgatory while walking in a sea of blood. Very gruesome and hard on the nerves. It actually made me sympathize with satanists trying to break their covenant with the devil. Where desertion is only punishable by death. In contrast Senua tried to embrace and dominate her situation instead of run. A mental battle I'm sure nobody would want to delve into if they had a choice. I really hope Square Enix would get onboard this unique type of gaming. At times Senua would walk up towards you as if you are actually in her presence. It made her feel alive instead of some designed artificial 3rd person. Dont think I've experienced this before in any other game. It made you as a 3rd person feel like a first person in her reality.

This new engine will certainly take things to a new level. Very eager to see whats coming while also being a bit concerned. Kids growing up today are exposed to a lot more serious and powerful stuff than us in our pixelated past. What effect will this have on the minds and the future of our world?

Hellblade 2 is supposed to be the first game using UE5. And yeah, some of the stuff created with the engine is hard to distinguish from real recorded footage.

Any one know if there is any game demo that running out of the editor tool, that i can check the UE5 engine for shader hacking? I have downlaoded the demo from epic games but this do not seems to be a "game" its only a project. Would be intresting what a DX11 UE5 game looks like ref. the shaders.

If you haven't already tried it, definitely play Hellblade in S-3D using DSS's fix. I tried the VR edition when it first came out, and although it's nice to be "in the game" during the gameplay, the fact they used a 2D cinema screen for playing all the cutscenes via video makes it inferior to playing it in 3D Vision, which renders all the cutscenes in-engine, and thus gets stereoized in 3D.

I fully agree with this. It was a bit annoying that they squished the convergence back to almost zero with the cut scenes. Believe its because they cant provide the full 6deg freedom with pre recorded footage. But it doesnt make sense that they've killed the depth in the process while it could've remained stereoscopical. Rather switch to a 3d theatrical mode...? The same thing happened with Battlefront 2. But there in certain scenes it was simple prerecorded 2d footage to save some space I assume. Not running through the API in real time.

It doesn't seem like there currently are a lot of contend to test this with. I hope and believe you guys could master this engine like you've been doing with the previous ones. Since one of the first games to be released on this engine is Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, my other hopes are quite high that VR would also be incorporated more user friendly for developers so that this capability would or could be possible if they decide to use it in the future considering demand. Hellblade II would set the stage and might inspire other developers to implement. Alyx hopefully also set a standard that other developers could aspire to.

I have a compiled standalone version of the Valley of the Ancients demo (approx 25Gb). If that's the sort of thing you're looking for I can upload it (though it will probably take a while as I have slow internet).

Here is the link, sorry it is split to so many files (9), I was having problems uploading larger files.

https://pixeldrain.com/l/SgFBcbLv

I didn't compile this myself, so I don't know which directX version it runs in.

Yes, it would be great if this works!

PS: The folder is portable so you can unpack it anywhere and run it.

Thank you for compiling the Demo for me.

The Good thing:
- dx11 is working
- migoto is hoocked
- UE4-UF2 RegEx working
- bo3bs super depth on 3D vision screen isworking very well

The bad thing:
- many wrong shaders (not a real bad thing because its "a new" engine
- game crashes after some seconds using migoto injection

So in general, we have to wait for a game and seewhat we can do, but its possible to fix UE5 in principal.

Im not sure if this is a problem of migoto or the engine alpha state or driver or OS. So we have to be patient until the first games are released and than have a closer look at the things.

This is the only info regarding the demo on PC that I could find, it's seems unclear if it will include the full demo.
The demo is now available via UE5 Marketplace, although Twitter user Victor Careil has a compiled standalone version (links in article):

This is the city and driving only, the Matrix characters aren't included.

3D Vision is likely to have the same UE5 performance issues that VR has, especially with respect to global illumination. See https://www.roadtovr.com/unreal-engine- ... en-vr/amp/.

Interesting.

"Lumen, meanwhile, is only designed to target 60 FPS for large outdoor scenes and 30 FPS for indoor scenes on the very latest console hardware. That’s a far cry from the 90 FPS minimum for most PC VR headsets. Which may mean that the ultimate limitation in bringing these features to VR is simply performance (or lack thereof).

The same scene rendered for a flat screen compared to being rendered for VR is often less performant in VR due to the need for stereoscopic rendering (and usually higher resolutions). Tricks like single-pass stereo and foveated rendering help reduce this overhead, but may not yet work in conjunction with the likes of Nanite and Lumen."

Seems like it's a combination of performance needs (which will come simply with new gen hardware) and some imposed limits of the Lumen module. I'm sure they'll be addressed eventually.
