Obscure Indie Games

Post by RAGEdemon »

There was a great topic at the old nVidia forums titled "Obscure Indie Games" by kludd40.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/fo ... mentPage=3

I was hoping we could continue here... :)

Journey looks interesting...

Nice find, never heard of it, hopefully UE4 UF2 works well with it, have you tried?

Another obscure game just released is Journey to the Savage Planet:

Also UE4 so a great chance that it works well.

Two more indie games that look interesting:

Mosaic
https://store.steampowered.com/app/349270/Mosaic/

Similar to Limbo, Inside, etc. , uses Unity:

Bright Memory(Early Access)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/9550 ... ly_Access/

UE4 game, it's early access but 5 euro and currently only 1 hour long but really good according to reviews, graphics look fantastic for a 1 guy development team.

My bad, I meant “Journey” from the first post...I misread Losti ‘s post thinking he was looking at both games. Savage planet is indeed UE4.

Ah ok, still I don't think Journey uses a propietary engine afaik, it uses PhyreEngine that's been used in some fixed games like Greedfall or Technomancer, so maybe it could be fixed at some point.

@thebigdogma: Are you runing this with the UE4-UV2 and its cool? Or with UE4-UV from DHR and its cool? Just let me know to "complete" the helix mod Blog list :-)

Journey to the Savage Planet is the FIRST GAME that needs the 3D-Migoto launcher!!! Pray for bo3b for this!! Its not starting without the launcher:

Code: Select all

 *** D3D11CreateDevice called with
    pAdapter = 000001AEE829C8C0
    Flags = 0x1
    pFeatureLevels = 0xb000
    FeatureLevels = 2
    ppDevice = 0000000E27ECE2E8
    pFeatureLevel = 0
    ppImmediateContext = 0000000E27ECE2F0
-- UnhookableCreateDevice called
->Feature level allowed through unchanged: 0xb000
Hooking Quirk: Unexpected call back into D3D11CreateDevice, passing through
BUT using the Launcher it will work!!!

Some things to sort out here follow my own written trouble shooting things to fix some issues or to fix it extra for this game, may the UE4-UV2 fix version 1.15 (not released yet) will do the things... Ill check this out but its working so far, the remaining things will be cured by a minor hands on time from me.

Journey (2019) is the same engine like GreedFall?? I skipped this game after some quick attemps because it wasnt absolutely not the game i like... from the first sight. But if this is the same engine like GreedFall i can check this twice! BUT ONLY A QUICK LOOK AND ATTEMP!!! I dont touch any big projects currently !!!!!!!!!!!!

Journey uses PhyreEngine : https://www.giantbomb.com/phyreengine/3015-6683/games/
Greedfall uses the Silk Engine, which is a "modified version of Sony's PhyreEngine " : https://www.igdb.com/game_engines/silk-engine

However if it's not your kind of game just ignore it Losti, don't try to fix games you don't care about, leave doing things you don't like for the real life job :lol:

Here are a few shots of Effie. There are some shadow issues, but setting Shadows to "Very Low" in the game settings fixes that (at least for as far as I've played.)

Which UE4-UV2 version? Please ensure using the latest version released.

Can you give me a savegame ?

Many issues came from AA, even if you see clipping or shadow issues!

Set everything to HIGH/ULTRA and AA to low or medium and try OR: copy Scalability.ini to WINDOWSDRIVELETTER:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Effie\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor and set this to write protected. Than you cant do anything wrong with the AA settings, you can choose max AA and its beeing like medium :-)

If this will not help you schould try

StereoFlagsDX10 = 0x00004008

and if this will not work

StereoTextureEnable = 0x00000027

Thanks - AA was the issue. Set it to "Very Low" and that cleared everything up.

I am using v 1.0 of the fix for Effie as both 1.13 and 1.14 result in the game running as a background process. I have left the game running for up to 10 minutes, waiting for it to start, but it just stays running in the background. I don't know if the issue is limited to Effie, as I have not tried other games with the latest versions of the fix, or if it is something else.

Or... maybe I am just not being patient enough on the initial load. :D

The UE4-UV2 since Version 1.15 has a cmd script that you can apply to automatically set suitible AA and AO settings that you will not run into issues caused by AA anymore. This restricts the AA to a suitible level even if you choose MAX. So you should be able to choose MAX and habe no issues!

Starting the game the first time using a new fix version may result in VERY LONG loading times. I DONT KNOW WHY but for now thats what i know:

- Even if the OSD shaders are cached, it also happens to me that some of it was recreated even without any changes in the hlsl files for some games, may be because of driver change, may be because of other things
- THIS takes MINUTES, i cant tell you how many but i think its CPU dependend. I am using a core I9 (9th generation), so if you have lower CPU it may takes even longer!
- If this happes, you start the game and you wont see the game loading, as you descried: its "running in the background"
- In fact, V 1.0 do NOT have the OSD, this means the game starts much faster. BUT PLEASE DO NOT USE OUTDATED FIX VERSIONS, otherwhise i may search fpr errors that are fixed in later versions not knowing that you are using a prev. one!
- WAIT, get a smoke, drink a beer, whatever you want to do but JUST WAIT! The game will start! If it crashes, just start it again, the cached shaders wont be cached again, you may have to start the game a second or a third time if it crashes while caching OSD shaders.

I have added those hint @ the blogs fix post to the section "Performance"

With some changes in the DSS scripts that he told me I was able to run his scripts successfuly for this game (UE 2018.4)
I have synchronized the HUD elements and add static depth.
