The Surge 2

Post by whyme466 »

The Surge 2 released yesterday - see https://store.steampowered.com/app/6448 ... 1_7_15__13.

It appears to be using the same engine as the first game, Fledge. Has anyone tried Helifax's great fix for The Surge with this newer game?
Dual boot VR/3D Vision disk partitioning (multiple SSDs). 3D Vision - Windows 10 v1809, 425.31 driver, 32 GB, i9-9900X@4.5 GHz, hybrid-cooled 2080Ti, 4K LG E6 OLED TV with EDID. VR/geo-11 - 3080Ti with Vive Pro 2, also have Aero, wireless lens-modified Vive Pro, Index, Reverb G2, Pimax 8K.

Any chance to start the game on another graphic engine?

No chance even on the Xbox One use DirectX 12, and Helifax wrote now use 32:9 monitor, and play 3D games only VR.

Yeah, that Vulkan only is a strange choice. The Surge is a great game, but is in the nice-to-have category. So Surge 2 can expect to lose some sales because there aren't any modding tools for Vulkan yet. Not even Reshade.

The Surge 1 was DX11, strange to switch to Vulkan only. Pity. Maybe some day.

This really is very sad!
I was just playing through The 1st Surge and I can say that Helifax gave this community yet another of his incredible gifts when he fixed this game. It's pure joy.
I cannot even imagine how much more awesome Surge 2 would have been, with bigger open world, more fleshed out combat and crafting systems, etc.
A tragic loss to our gaming community.

Not a problem! I am really happy to have helped and that you use Vk3DVision for fixing this game!
Awesome job, as always!

This is great news, thank you Helifax for the Vulkan wrapper, and thanks Masterotaku if a Surge 2 fix will materialise.
Hope it's easy to shaderhunt with the GUI based fetures of the wrapper, it was really genius of Helifax to have this approach. It's really encouraging to see already other people using it to fix games so soon after release!
I think Helifax's wrapper was an incredible gift to this community, so sad that it had to coincide with this horrible incertitude about the new drivers and cards.
And the performance with Vulkan is probably one of the most welcome news.

Masterotaku, just curious. Is the frame sync improvement also easy to tackle during fixing, for Surge 2? Or is this a very complicated aspect, that we cannot expect to benefit from for every fix?

It's great not having to alt+tab for hours because everything related to hunting and editing shaders can be done ingame.

I have no idea about how to do that. If it gets done, it has to be done by Helifax or by me when/if he teaches me how to do that (the tutorial video isn't on youtube yet).

Very very nice! Congrats!
I will look to see about the Frame Sync in the future ;) I am currently tied into other RL thingies that I need to finish ;)
Frame Sync is a pretty much needed feature in HelixVision/VR :D, but ofc this is just for synchronizing the frames and not the Stereo3D output ;)

Awesome job again!!! I really look forward to try it out! In the last 2 weeks I didn't manage to play games more than 1-2 hours ;))
So glad to see that I am not the only one using Vk3DVision  :P

What video drivers do you need to make it work Vk3DVision with this game? I stayed at the 417.01 drivers
if I start Vk3DVision it gives me this error
Thanks

Newer than 425.31, that's for sure. I use 451.67, but there are some newer ones that can still be hacked to work with 3D Vision (don't use the latest drivers, but you should know that already).

Has anyone else tried using ReShade (Vulcan library) with Vk3DVision and The Surge 2 fix? In some areas, the game appears too dark on my OLED display, even with gamma at max value. I tried using a Nexus mod to adjust game's visual display (see https://www.nexusmods.com/thesurge2/mod ... escription), but I cannot get ReShade V4.7 to work when Vk3DVision is running...

As a PSA, it appears that initial Character Creation background determines whether or not a player can obtain one important implant - see https://steamcommunity.com/app/644830/d ... 061568113/.

The fix is flawless - thank you masterotaku and helifax!

Somehow I am not able to change the default depth-value when launching The Surge 2 via 3D Fix Manager. I changed the value (70 depth) in every ini-file I could find but still it's always back to the default 70% when I launch the game the next time. I would like to know what needs to be done, so the game launches with my desired depth-value.

I use 100, but I'm not using the fix manager for it, so I don't have any problems like that. I don't know what to recommend right now.
Self reminder: I should update the fix with the latest Vk3DVision version. Tomorrow or sometime next week (it's just a matter of replacing the exe file, I suppose, unless the ini has something new).

Vk3DVision is BASED on Reshade! You can't have "2 Reshades" working :)
The dark picture seems to be SRGB vs RGB. I already fixed that VR, but I believe you are not using OpenVR mode. What mode are you using? SBS?

Thanks for the feedback about the incompatible dual use of Reshade, helifax.

I completed the game using normal 3D vision settings (OLED E6 TV with 4K EDID mod and 3D Vision Eye Swapper app). There are VERY few problematic dark areas - most of the game areas look great. Thanks again for crafting and maintaining VK3DVision!
