shutter glasses 3D on LCD monitors

Post by Nihility »

eDimensional claim their new glasses work on LCDs.
I can't find a confirmation of this anywhere. A CRT is not an option for me.

I have a viewsonic VP930 (19", 1280x1024, 75Hz, 8ms gtg, 18ms btw) am I going to be able to experience 3D with shutter glasses?

which drivers do I need to install?
how bad is it going to be?
what kind of LCD monitor would be able to pull this off ? how about the 2ms minitor viewsonic has?

thanks,
Nihility

Interlace

Post by dr_barnowl »

From the way tomshardware describes it, the eDimensional drivers operate through interlacing.

This is how they work even on the rather persistent LCD displays - because say, the odd lines are used for the left eye, and the even lines for the right, persistence is not a problem.

Unfortunately this halves your vertical resolution. It also sounds like the drivers are a bit crap. It's a fudge, basically.

There are those fancy LCD panels with parallax barriers on them, but they are niche and thus expensive. It sounds like stereoscopic 3D on LCD isn't going very far.

Here's hoping that OLED technologies (or whatever replaces LCD) have a better refresh rate and lower persistence. Or perhaps we should go straight to bi-optical VRDs.....[/url]

I just got a pair of the edimensional 3d shutter glasses.
they definitly do not work on my LCD. pretty decent experience on a CRT though.

such horrid game support though. crosshairs and text are just a mess
