An accurate term for Magic Leap's display is a time-multiplexed interpolated multi focal depth display. The projector produces several subframes per frame, each of which is coupled out of its waveguide by switchable diffractive optics of a different focal distance (like SBG Labs tech). I base this on the filed patents, talks and company hires.
