Carnegie Mellon plans to bring the lunar surface to Earth via virtual reali

Astronauts, at least if they work for NASA, are not returning to the moon anytime soon, thanks to President Obama’s specific directive. One of the participants in the Google Lunar X Prize competition is planning to accomplish the next best thing. Carnegie Mellon University, in collaboration with Astrobiotics, is developing a virtual reality system based on Oculus Rift to allow anyone to experience the surface of the moon like the original Apollo astronauts did decades ago, according to a Thursday story in Betanews.
