OUTLAST, too scarry but TOO Fascinating to be RIFTED!

Post by Dilip »

While surfing for scarry games,came across a super super scarry title OUTLAST. As i read through many many review my first thought was,how will it look on Oculus RIFT HD??

its already a hot topic on oculus developers forum.

i see no reason why they should not officialy support rift.At present stage game has issues even to run with tridef but that can be ironed out once tridef R&D come out with next build i m positeve about it.

may i know if anyone is sucessful in playing this game with Tridef on their DK?

Though nothing can match developer level intigration as many here say. i too believe in it but its all convincing business and that part is sad in whole process

@Holeychicken
you posted some where you will demo your Rift DK to Amnesia team/devloper may i know reactions and change on view or thoughts on integration?

This is most desirable game to be rifted.

My concern with Outlast is that the game frequently and strongly interferes with the player's camera orientation. Walking, sprinting, peeking, opening doors, interacting with objects, cutscenes..... almost everything in the game does it. Your headtracking would be near constantly manipulated, and so I suspect this would be quite uncomfortable to play with the Rift for many (personally, the only thing I like moving my virtual head is my REAL head). It would take a large amount of developer time to adjust the game to be Rift-friendly.

Of course, I've also heard of some people disabling head tracking, using the mouse, and effectively using the Rift as an alternative monitor; I guess for THOSE guys, the prospect of Outlast with no dev support would still be appealing.

Someone has a good memory. I was surprised to be mentioned directly by name, haha.

Yes - I took my Rift to TheChineseRoom on Wednesday and gave the guys a play with the hardware, on a variety of demos. I don't know what they would be happy for me to divulge, so I shan't say any more on the subject at this point.

You are VR-PURIST! :) What you pointed out above 100% true if you see from FP VR PERSPECITVE only.

I still see opportunity in game being great this way! I don't mind turning off head tracking, if it adds dark enclosure a giant screen and flawless 3D due to no cross-talk of 3D monitors. Still is way too immersive then playing on 23"/27" 3D monitors.

I just get V-sick using the Rift if my head isn't in full control, that's all! I'm not trying to be a purist, it's simply that I don't want to feel queasy :)
