Currently Supported Formats:

PanoramaCylinder_OverUnder_RL
PanoramaCylinder_SideBySide_LR
PanoramaCylinder_SideBySide_RL
PanoramaSphere_OverUnder_LR
PanoramaSphere_OverUnder_RL
PanoramaSphere_SideBySide_LR
PanoramaSphere_SideBySide_RL
Photo_OverUnder_LR
Photo_OverUnder_RL
Photo_SideBySide_LR
Photo_SideBySide_RL
RiftScreenshot_RL

jpeg, png, etc

NO MORE BROWSING, setting formats, switching LR, etc!! this is All Done with ALBUMS!

I've aimed to make this as easy to use as possible and for the browsing to not distract from the VR experience - all of the images are organized in "Albums" - that is, separate directories.

Each album contains folders named after the formats listed above - you should place images in the corresponding folders

after you have everything set up use the arrow keys to cycle photos in an album, and N,M to cycle albums.

Q to quit!

I've included a sample Album for testing

I do not have a rift so please test and if possible send me a rift

Update:
added RiftScreenshot_RL - you can use screenshots taken while using the Rift and this output will "reverse" the distortion and allow you to enjoy it properly

Update: 1.01
Added other viewing modes apart from the Rift, to Switch between the other modes and the Rift press "C" - you will get this screen:

Image

to switch between mouse view and this window press "Tab"

- when in Rift mode, when you are loading the next image the screen will now go black instead of freezing to avoid dizziness

Added Image Adjustment controls for Photos and Rift screenshots - separation, vertical aligment, distance and scale

Image Adjust Keys:
Separation [ , ]
Vertical Alignment ; and '
Scale K , L
Distance = Up,Down arrows

And best of all - these settings are SAVED so you don't have to re-adjust every time

special thanks to mediavr ( http://www.mediavr.com/blog/) for the spherical japanese garden panorama - his site contains many more panoramas which you can use with this here viewer

Update: 1.02

- fixed a bug that prevented the Image Adjustment functionality
- the default photo separation will now be much more comfortable (hopefully)

Update 1.04

- Added MPO Support!!
- Added The Arch - Enable/Disable using Enter

Image

Keyboard shortcuts can be a pain to learn, finding them can be difficult when you are wearing the rift.
The Arch is the latest word in stereoscopic technology - it can be enabled/disabled using "Enter"
press buttons using "Left Mouse Buttons" or "Spacebar"

Also, since I don't have a rift, tell me this:
- is the positioning of the arch relative to the camera OK?
- is everything comfortable - are there any parts of the program that can be improved to make it more user friendly?

Update 1.05
- hopefully fixed MPO -related crashes due to memory usage - let me know if it happens again and the size of your MPO collection
- Added debug info text that displays the settings for each image - let me know the best settings so I will make them the default ones

NEW version 1.06
- default separation set to 0.066 for now - lemme know if that is good

Not really sure if this was the goal, but some pictures work really well .. and others don't.
The Japanese garden and black smith pictures for example look very nice and easy on the eyes, but the Half-Life 2 picture makes me totally dizzy and doesn't look right.

Pretty nifty - just checked this out. Some of them don't seem to converge perfectly (maybe it's just an IPD thing? I'm kinda on the smaller end at 59mm) and it hurt a little, but overall, pretty decent.

thanks! Apart from the HL2 image, can you clarify the names of the pics and what's wrong? (convergence/separation, LR is swapped, vertical misalignment, etc)? I don't have a rift so it's hard to test

added convergence controls in 1.01!!
Half-Life 2 picture makes me totally dizzy and doesn't look right
now that I added the other options I concur that it didn't so I removed it

Good work. I haven't watched anything yet but do you already have support for wide panoramic or even 360(problematic i know)-views? I guess that would work great with headtracking.

yes, cylindrical and spherical panoramas (both 360 degrees)
headtracking is already available if you are using the rift

I should have sworn that you've already thought of that.
I surrendered in a weak moment of desire and is now in the queue for a devkit. I was set to wait until the consumerversion is ready but honestly i can't wait anymore.

:D Really cool! This will be really useful for viewing stills!

Is it possible to add support for cubemap format images? I guess it's not stereo, but I've collected a few cubemap format panoramas that would be awesome to view with head tracking.

http://www.humus.name/index.php?page=Textures I think it'd be really cool to look around these.

I will try to add this in the upcoming version

Update 1.04

- Added MPO Support!!
- Added The Arch - Enable/Disable using Enter

is the arch usable with mouse?

you could add support for 360 controller, that would be easy to use... also you can add Esc key to exit is more intuitive

Never considered 3d photography an option, since I had no good method of displaying it, but now with an iphone app, a rift, and your program, it's easy. I had a lot of fun with this Yuri. Thank you.

just a few issues:

- after about 10 minutes of use, I get increasingly more giant red "?" s popping up and the pic not loading. About that same time, the adjustments I made to each pic seem to reset or something. It will sometimes apply the wrong format to the pic ( example: create a 360 view of a sbs pic).

I exit and reload the program, and the original adjustments I made to each pic seem to be ok. After about 10 minutes, the same issues arise.

- Using a mouse on the console would be great. I really like the visible console idea. You could really do some cool stuff visually, plus I wouldn't have to take off the rift to make adjustments. But I'm getting pretty good at keyboarding blind.

- I've done mostly sbs pics, and usually have to adjust quite a bit to the left. But then my pic is off-centered to the left. Is it possible to implement any type of "player" or screen movement? I mean, in addition to zooming in or out.

Thanks again. I'm going to be taking a lot of 3d pictures now!

Update 1.05
- hopefully fixed MPO -related crashes due to memory usage - let me know if it happens again and the size of your MPO collection
- Added debug info text that displays the settings for each image - let me know the best settings so I will make them the default ones

if you still get crashes after viewing many images let me know what kinds of formats you are viewing and how many are in the album

Wow! I won't be able to try this for a few days, but this has me so excited. Now I might actually have a decent way to experience all these pics I've taken with my W3. Thanks yuriythebest awesome idea!

So I finally got around to try this, it totally gave new life to my .MPO files :O I even ran a slideshow for my Mother, haha! Instant feedback?
  • keep rendering while loading a new image
  • show x/y images in the album
  • start/stop slideshow
  • would be very neat with a row of thumbnails at the bottom :P
  • uh, separation keys are awkward on a Swedish keyboard... can I change them? (AltGr+8, AltGr+9)
  • same with vertical alignment (shift+, which is far from ')
  • just adding gamepad support would be nice :D sticks and/or triggers!!!
Sorry if some points are repeating what has been mentioned or features already implemented :P recovering from a hospital visit, too tired to read it all, just sitting here with the Rift on my head, haha.

Again, very neat to display MPO files with it, I'll have to go get my W3 out of storage. I do wonder what parallax setting in the camera makes the best images to look at in this awesome app :O has anyone experimented with this? I might, when I have the energy, heh.

Some more reporting :D I just turned off auto parallax in the W3 and it seems to work just fine. Of course closer objects are harder to look at like in real life, for me at least. I'm not sure at which aspect ratio the images are displayed? O.o I took a bunch of pictures of motorcycles and old cars today, and the wheels look not entirely circular, not sure if that is because of the perspective or the viewer, heh!
