I suspect the lack of replies is because peoples troll alarm is going off.mayaman wrote:Inside an Oculus Rift?
Are you asking if you could retro fit a rift with the display panels from an HMZ 1/2 and have the rift function with the same FOV and compatibility with current rift-enabled games ?

Not trolling. Wondering since there is a couple of displays in the HMZ if they could be made to use in the rift. I don't understand why thats so offensive. [shrug]

The rift uses a single large display with very basic light optics. Using two seperate displays is adding a lot of complexity before you even render an image.mayaman wrote:Not trolling. The HMZ uses 2 tiny displays with highly engineered and high magnification optics - 45 FOV is about the max you can get from panels that size. So you would never get the immersion you want and expect from the rift.
Have a trawl through some of the older DIY forums for the science on exit pupil, magnification and type of HMD...
The answer is no, i'm afraid. BUT you could make the HMZ slightly better, I am sure....
